(He has won some Edgars, among MANY other awards, so it’s okay to use “telltale” when speaking of Stephen King.  A great all-around Jumble.  No new clue words, but all of the jumbles appear to be new.  I really liked “egneva”.  The answer letter layout was a really beautiful, cryptic jumble.  It took me a few looks to see the SIGNS.  But after that, the Ls, Ts and Es revealed enough to me, to give me the remainder.  Nice bookstore cartoon.  The signs made it all possible.  Mr. King has always reminded me of my one-time college roommate, Doug Smith, of Caltech fame!  Both brilliant guys.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

I went through the same progression as you in getting to the bottom of this one, Unc. I may have had more trouble solving this without Jeff’s cartoon which featured *two* signs… hmmmmm, I thought… now that’s unusual.

Cool photo of Stephen King you found. Truly creepy! Today somebody would report him as a suspicious character, leading to an official inquiry.

Let me tell you, David, I’m sure glad none of my roommates looked like that! A little too Charlie Manson for my tastes. — YUR 🙂

Didn’t finish. I didn’t get Avenge (which is the jumble spelled backwards). I got Geneva. Like the convention. Which, of course, got the clue letters wrong. :\

THAT must be why I saw AVENGE so quickly, Damid! I read upside down and backwards almost as well as I do right side up and forwards.

Are you aware that your blog shows up in Google searches ?

Do a search for “Stephen King” or “Doug Smith” at Caltech.

I could not read Stephen King books. I would have never slept again. My young nephew would plow right through them.

When I wrote GENEVA backward I immediately found AVENGE. That helped me finish up the Jumble, with a pause for the answer. Thank goodness for the SIGNS!!!

lwc, I followed the link and did find our Unc’s picture. You have to scroll down through the pics! LL
