Clue/Question: When the giant animals argued over bamboo, the result was – – –

Answer: “PANDA–MONIUM“
(A nice silly pun, for a nice silly Saturday Jumble! Tried and true clue words, but all of today’s jumbles appear to be new. For me, “polpta” was the trickiest. Probably because of my thing with compound words. Hey, the word has only been around since 1983, or so! The clue word “dirty” is another word that spells out in alphabetical order. Not a lot of words do that. The answer letter layout is great, but the answer was pretty obvious.
I always liked the word pandemonium, probably because of my associating it with panda bears, until I looked up its etymology. I’m just not into *magical thinking*. And, hey! There are a lot of better synonyms that are more concise anyway. Bedlam, chaos, mayhem, hubbub, rumpus, tumult, turmoil, and uproar, to name a few. I think a lot of people kind of use the word incorrectly too. They use it to describe wild celebrations, and that’s not really why the word was coined. Anyway . . .
Cute cartoon. At least Jeff is using the word properly. None of the pandas are celebrating, or even mildly happy. It’s a bamboo melee! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
