Cryptoquote Spoiler – 01/17/18

Power is actualized only when word and deed have not parted company.”   —   Hannah Arendt

(Words alone can inspire, but combining them with actions gives them more meaning.  This cryptoquote was not a gimme.  It took me some work.  Ms. Arendt appears to be new to the Cryptoquote.  The quote in the painting translates to:  Nobody has the right to obey.  The use of the word “right” is a little odd, to me.  Right is more of a privilege.  Maybe obligation is a better word?  I think we all have the right to disobey, and at least question authority.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

You know how words can lose context during translation between languages. “Right” may be the exact meaning of the word “recht” in German, yet in Hannah’s quote, “obligation” would be the implied usage.

I have that problem when trying to read magazine articles from writers who don’t live in America. Sometimes, they use a context that I will need a foreigner to explain before I get it.
