Answer:  ONEHIT WONDER

(What a woman!  Too bad the one in this past year’s movie was once in the IDF.  That’s why I boycotted the movie.  I’m pretty much superheroed out anyway.  I’ll watch them on cable, but I won’t spend my time – and money – to see them in theaters.  She’s a pretty girl, and I’d like to like her.  But, I also un-fanned myself from  Scarlett Johansson, for choosing Soda Stream over being an ambassador for Oxfam.  Yer uncle won’t stand for injustice, no matter that they’re a so-called “ally” and “the only true democracy in the Middle East”I’ll stick with Lynda Carter, thank you.

We’re 0 – 3 for new clue word days in 2018, but we’re 4 – 4 for new jumbles today.  I had to back into “disown” for some reason.  I don’t think I have a bias towards the word, so I’ll just have to credit Hoyt’s superior jumbling of the word.  I’ve always enjoyed the word “stodgy”.  It’s a very descriptive word.  The answer letter layout was a super jumble!  Without Jeff’s great cartoon, and the clue/question, it would have been difficult to un-jumble it to the answer.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Yep, UR, I had to back in to ‘disown’ also. After I figured it out, I wondered why it WAS so hard to figure out! Say, are you all in the Buffalo area included in the forecasted nor’easter/winter storm, or are you far enough inland? Stay toasty!

Glad I’m not the only one w/trouble on disown, couldn’t even back into it! Was able to solve the Jumble though. Don’t mind them being tough as long as I eventually get it. Hard one today but I’ll be back tomorrow. And Linda Carter was and is the only Wonder Woman!

Good puzzle! I wrestled with the final answer for a long time. Tried ONE-TWO. Tried WINNER. Kept wanting to do HITTER but we were missing a second T. Also couldn’t do RUNNER or BATTER. I figured the superhero angle was important but couldn’t think of a female superhero name that fit. I finally stumbled into WONDER and then the clue made sense.

    Rock on everybody.

Yes, I realize what I have been doing for the last 2+ hours is a tad crazy….but!

OK, so I open my paper this morning and we have a LARGE JUMBLE. So excited! That is until I see that I don’t have the whole Jumble, just the cartoon and the lead in to the answer. No jumbled clue words, no block grid for the unjumbled clue words. So, I pick up my phone and call the paper to talk to one of the geniuses that now seem to be employed there. The wait will be long, I’m told. But wait, they will call me back with in 17 to 30 minutes. How about that! I chose that option.

Soooo, when I get back from a Derm appointment, Costco, the Vitamin Shoppe, Hallmark, Ace Hardware, The Brown Roof, and Publix I have yet to hear from the newspaper. I had a sinking feeling they were not going to call, so I tried them again. They were busy and the wait was about an hour. OK, I had things to do at my desk. Why not hold??!! I finished up what I needed to do and found the Jumble for today online and worked it.

And drat, now I’m going to have to write a letter.to the paper…maybe an e-mail would do. I’m finding this holding this long past time time they said a bit unacceptable, but their biggest offense is messing with my JUMBLE!. And my rear bones are starting to hurt! And since it is now almost 6:00 I’m wondering if they have all gone home??!

BUT, there’s also that, “well, I’ve held so long, I bet the minute I hang up they try to get to me” syndrome that happens when you hold. And they do keep telling me they will get to me as soon as they can….so I hold.

I did work the Jumble in 6:45 minutes! And I scored 1400 out of 1700. I have found I don’t like being timed doing my jumbles. DISOWN was a tad diabolical! But, I got it! A home-run jumble!

Well, I’m fixing to hang up. Dinner needs to be made. And I’m in good shape to do tomorrow’s Jumble!!! LL

I think Buffalo is very safe . . . this time, Jenn. Even my area is projected to get only from 1 – 3 inches, but there is supposed to be some extra cold temps, with some high winds. They already decided to close my daughter’s school in the Bronx. — YUR

I had to back into Disown as well. The answer seemed simple to me, and reading the comments by the two players in back kind of confirmed my train of thought.
