Visual Description: Good guy comedy!
VONEY = ENVOY, USEQT = QUEST, MUTUNA = AUTUMN, EGDELP = PLEDGE — Giving us: NYUSTAUPDG
Clue/Question: The comedian was well-respected. Everyone considered him to be a – – –
Answer: STAND–UP GUY
(Aah! That old gag! Actually, it’s a pretty good pun! Ya gotta hand it to Hoyt. None of today’s clue words are new. But, a couple of the jumbles appear to be new. Hoyt has used “voney” and “mutuna” before. I was very surprised to see that he used “egdelp” though. It is “pledge” exactly backwards. He usually doesn’t resort to that. The answer letter layout was his best jumble. Although, I probably would have swapped “autumn” and “pledge”, to avoid the obvious UP that we got. But, then again, not everybody writes out the answer letter layout the way yer uncle does, so . . . psshh. The cartoon brought back some old memories for me. I went to Zanies a couple of times when I was on assignments in Nashville. It’s a great comedy club. Technically, it’s more in Brentwood, but that’s actually where the office was too. It’s a nice suburb of Nashville, maybe 15 minutes from downtown. I always stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott, as seen above, when I was there. This was back when yer uncle was a corporate monkey. Thanks for the memories, boys! You know, someone should pay me for all this free advertising! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
That’s odd about PLEDGE being Jumbled up straight backwards. I try to avoid that. I do all these by hand/sight and re-arrange each one numerous times until it feels just right. I never look at lists to see how I’ve done them before. I really enjoy trying to come up with a new Jumble arrangement by hand/sight. It’s very fun for me. But every now and then I’ll forget to make sure I didn’t just spell the word backwards like today. That’s just one of the drawbacks of doing all this by hand/sight by a human. I’m actually surprised this doesn’t happen more often. Better this than to just computer generate different arrangements. Each Jumble is like a work of art to me and I don’t ever plan to look at lists or computer generate any part of it. It’s fun to feel so personally connected to the puzzle. I can only imagine how connected Jeff must feel with his amazing cartoons. Seriously…How talented is Jeff Knurek?! He’s amazing.
We all appreciate the professional personal touch, David! Oh, and how much money do you owe Jeff??? 🙂 — YUR
Thanks for the insight, David. Nothing wrong with an occasional alphabetical or reverse alphabetical arrangement. Your care and attention really come through! Yes, Jeff’s does, too!
