Clue/Question: The sea-based wind farm produced this type of energy(?) – – –
Answer: “ALL–TURN–ATIVE“
(Everybody likes good clean pun! Right? You can’t get any cleaner than wind and solar power. Argue all you want about the viability and reliability, and the economy of renewable energy sources. They are nonsensical arguments, and largely just part of a delaying tactic, by the fossil fuel industry. Oilman, T. Boone Pickens, used to rail against renewables, but now is heavily invested in wind farms.
No new clue words today, but three of the jumbles came up as new. We’ve seen “cante” before. The answer letter layout was a marvelous jumble. It did a great job of concealing the answer. Because of the cartoon’s water, the dialog’s reference to the North Sea, and the clue/question, I was trying to come up with some variance of NAUTICAL. Until I realized that there was no “C”! It was a fairly challenging Jumble! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
This one stumped me. I needed two letter hints online in the middle section of the final answer to solve it. I wasn’t blown away by this puzzle, and not because it stumped me. Sometimes I’m stumped or more often struggle with a really good clue and final answer, and then I’m happy to bow to David and Jeff and say, Well done, guys, you got me. Didn’t feel that here. Trying to find a five-letter anagram in the clue letters (-ATIVE is not a word, and good luck coming up with that if you don’t already have both ALL- and -TURN-) or a marine or wind word which seemed key to clue and cartoon was not a good use of time. They’ll use red herrings and made-up spellings and words, I get it, and I understand “alternative energy” is a term, but I thought this one was too far adrift at sea and needed a more leading clue or compelling answer. Just my opinion. Tomorrow is another day with another chance for an applause-worthy Jumble.
FWIW, you’re not alone, David. I’m seeing a substantial uptick in queries today! And, particularly for today’s Jumble. So far, I’m at a little over 4100 queries. Average is 2300 – 2500, so it looks like the guys stumped a good number of folks.

I think yesterday’s meal still clouded my synapses as I only got Fellow. Even though some of the other words seemed easy, I saw nothing. Though I did get ALL for one of the answer words, nothing else came to mind. 😀
I kept trying to make it work with ‘air’ being the first part of the answer. Took me a long, long time to get the solution!
Welll, our funny paper got gone for Friday and I didn’t even get to attempt this jumble. But from looking at it, I don’t know how I would have done!
I did want to say that the pic you picked was awesome Unc. AND, the diagram was very interesting. I’m wondering how those windmills in the water, especially the deeper water, would hold up to a hurricane—or maybe they would not be put into the oceans?
Always interesting and informative here!! LindaLee
This one had me actually researching what’s in the North Sea. My first time ever to give up and seek the answer. In the process I learned about “sea based” wind farms and the three types of such farms. Incidentally, I never thought of alternative as a descriptor of renewable. Thanks for the lesson.
The Jumble Guyz and Unclerave . . . educating the world!!! LOL! Thanks, Dr Barb
