Clue/Question: Sherlock Holmes gave his friends discounts, and they were thankful for his – – –
Answer: DEDUCTIONS
(Elementary, my dear word nerds! Actually, if you weren’t familiar with the Sherlock Holmes stories/movies this might have stumped you some. It was usually Dr. Watson who would compliment Sherlock with: Brilliant deduction, Holmes! Very entertaining stories. Read them, if you get the chance. Or, watch the numerous movie versions of them. There were no new clue words today. Stupid “updates” to Windows 10 made searching the ralis95 database a chore! But, eventually, I managed. All of the jumbles appear to be new. The answer letter layout was a brilliant jumble, Hoyt! It took me a couple of minutes to see the answer. Fantastic cartoon. It looks like it could be a still from one of the Rathbone and Nigel Bruce films of the early ’40s! Nice job, guys. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
I needed extra time today for the final answer too, as elementary and obvious as it seems now. Right away DISCOUNTED popped up at me, which of course is the wrong answer, as it doesn’t flow from the clue and also because another form of that word is a key word in the clue. But it was hard to let go of that wrong answer and find the right one.
Basil Rathbone was the my favorite Holmes on screen.
He also played a great bad guy in the Errol Flynn “Robin Hood”: Sir Guy of Gisbourne! And, he was in a slew of great movies in the ’30s and ’40s! — YUR
Btw, UR, the Jumble was an answer on Cash Cab last week!…that episode originally aired 7-17-06. …also, the Jumble drawing that you’re in,(that still is just so cool), was it by chance a picture of a gathering of Jumblers, and there’s a guy standing out in the crowd with glasses on? I do the Just Jumble app, saw that, and wondered if that was you??
That sounds like the one, Jenn! — YUR
Wow…that is such a special compliment to you!
