Visual Description: Ultra flan flambé.
IKYML = MILKY, BERLE = REBEL, RUCCEA = ACCRUE, UNCESS = CENSUS — Giving us: MILRBERECEU
Clue/Question: The rookie’s dessert was so badly burned, the head chef called it a – – –
Answer: “CRIME“ BRULEE
(Excellent pun! I like this guy, Wayno! I’ve been looking at some of his work at Google Images. Great word play! Reminds me a little of Hilary Price, who does Rhymes With Orange. Freshly irreverent. There were no new clue words today, however all four jumbles came up as new. I’m guessing that some may have had some difficulty getting “accrue” and “census”. The answer letter layout was a jumble masterpiece. Very nicely cryptic. The combination of the quotation marks, the cartoon’s dialog, the shallow smoldering dessert dish, and the clue/question all fit together perfectly. If Hoyt and Knurek ever decide to move on to other endeavors, this guy, Wayno, could slide right in, seamlessly. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

CENSUS… another word like our recently-noted stumper STEREO, with common letters in an odd sequence… if this one bit you in the butt (maybe again), and if you’ve put off starting that Tough Jumble Word list, start it today, and put those two at the top. You’ll play better and be less frustrated.
I’m not gloating, because even though CENSUS caused me no delay today unlike the first time I saw it in Jumble, the Bonus answer sure did. I even hit on CRIME two minutes in based on the caption but still couldn’t see BRULEE for another three minutes. BRULEE is fair game for Jumble IMO, but it’s not an English-origin word with English letter patterns, so no surprise that it’s hard to unscramble–uncommon letter-sequence words are the hardest for me, the way I solve. The five vowels distributed among two short words is a clue that something odd is up, but despite recognizing that, this one still got me. I had to step away from trying to unscramble the two words and just think about what the clue was getting at, and then I got it.
I also love guest-cartoonist week, even though Jeff’s cartoons are great. It’s just a fun change-of-pace and introduces some comics we’ve never seen that are well worth our attention. Well done all!
Yeah, just a little difficulty! Never did get census. Able to solve the jum without it but quotation marks were important. Agree with your assessment of this dude’s talent Unc. He could give us some interesting recipes. Kinda fun, just don’t like failing a word. Thx for sharing your Mom’s birthday & you are correct; I quit smoking in 2005 & still get antsy about lung disease possibly coming as it sometimes does even 20 years later. Bless you.
Thanks. Will correct! — YUR
Weird, difficult answer.
A little difficult, but not weird, Jim. Haven’t you ever had creme bruleé before? Or, at least heard of it? It’s quite tasty. I don’t think you’re the only one who struggled with it though! — YUR
I didn’t have a lot of time to work the puzzle, so I didn’t finish. But I have heard of creme brulee. My problem was the first two clue words. Milky combined with Berle got me going down the Uncle Miltie path and that was pretty much it for me. 🙂
I certainly did not breeze through the clue words, but it was the answer that held me up. And then ding, ding, ding got it! Two days later! 🙂
Another new cartoon to me. And another grand guest cartoonist!

I ditto David’s advice on having a toughie word list…I can’t tell you how many jumbles I look at and instantly recognize I’ve had trouble with it before…if it’s not on the list, I struggle with it yet again…Oy vey!
David, I have a question about the toughie word list. If I’m having problems unjumbling a word, how do I find it in the list?? How do you keep the list?? LindaLee
Just a little update on Mr. Wayno. I just found out that starting tomorrow, Jan 2nd, Wayno will be creating Bizzaro 6 out of 7 days. Bizzaro’s creator, Dan Piraro, (Former Guest Jumbler) will just be creating the Sunday version. Dan will be spending more time living in Mexico, creating amazing works of art. Seriously, Dan is like Salvador Dali reincarnated. Wayno will continue to be brilliant, but will instantly have a much larger audience that he deserves. And Dan, can take a much deserved break after creating his bizarre world for 33 years. There you go.
Great to know, Jeff. Especially for everyone who’s newspaper carries Bizzaro! Congrats to Dan!!! — YUR 🙂
