But man is not made for defeat.  A man can be destroyed but not defeated.”   —   Ernest Hemingway

(Not bad, for a Monday.  It’s been a while since we’ve had a Hemingway quote.  Sounds like something from “The Old Man and the Sea”.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  HAY THERE

(Ya can’t go wrong with the classics!  Nor with horsies!  We appear to have a new clue word today, in “hutch”.  It’s not in my latest version of the ralis95 world famous clue word database.  So, I guess our dear friend will have to add it to his reminder list, for editing purposes.  I’m not a fan of the *word* “emcee”.  How did they ever legitimize that?  Within the context of talking about a Master of Ceremonies, is MC really too vague for some???  I think that some of the people who are responsible for adding words to the dictionary are about as bright as too many of our elected leaders!  All of the jumbles came up as new.  I thought “rayals” was pretty good.  The answer letter layout was good, for an eight letter answer.  But, this answer leapt off the page, like an Olympian steeplechase horse!  Yer uncle always likes cartoons with horsies.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Marriage is a great institution, but I’m not ready for an institution.”   —   Mae West

(I always think of Mae West and W.C. Fields together, but I think they only did the one movie.  They seemed to have a similar sense of humor.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Pre-Answer:  Four Words  (5-letters) (4-letters) (2-letters) (5-letters)

Image result for royal flush

Answer:  GREAT DEAL OF CHIPS

(Must’ve had a great poker face, too!  No new clue words today, yet all of the jumbles came up as new.  I can’t say I struggled with any of them.  The answer letter layout was another matter though.  I thought that it was a wonderful jumble that did a great job of concealing the answer.  I didn’t see CHIPS at all, at first.  And, I thought that the middle two words might be PAIR OF.  The remaining TASELDCEGH did give me DEALS, and that was enough for me to change things up.  Swell cartoon!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  GO OUT IN STYLE

(The guys have been hitting on all cylinders this week!  Another sublime Jumble!  All of today’s clue words are old favorites, although some we haven’t seen in a while.  Two of the jumbles appear to be new, with “sayet” and “stagek” having definitely been used before.  Admirable answer letter layout.  Nothing given away.  Plenty of style in the cartoon.  Especially the haircuts.  Yer uncle would definitely stick out like a sore thumb in that crowd, with his torn jeans, grass-stained sneakers, and Marines tee-shirt.  Talking in the third person can be fun!  I’ve never cared much for fashion, but I thoroughly enjoyed Ugly Betty.  I wouldn’t mind to see them reprise the show.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Let us choose for ourselves our path in life, and let us try to strew that path with flowers.”   —   Emilie du Chatelet

(Beautiful imagery!  This is our first quote from Emilie du Chatelet, since I’ve been posting these spoilers.  She was a woman before her time.  Very accomplished as an author, mathematician, physicist and philosopher.  And yet, someone I’d never heard of before!  Look her up, folks.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  DO DILIGENCE

(This qualifies as a real stinky pun!  A real groaner!  But, that’s why I like it.  There were no new clue words today, but three of the jumbles appear to be new.  I thought that both “feddie” – which we’ve had before – and “ccesin” were fairly challenging jumbles.  I semi-backed into them.  The answer letter layout was a marvelous jumble.  I don’t think it gave anything away.  The quotation marks were the big clue for me!  That, and my 24 years in trust accounting.  Nifty cartoon.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

PS.  Happy Autumnal Equinox everybody!  Some twelve year old wrote something about it being “a little depressing”, because the days are getting shorter!  Duh!  They’ve been getting shorter since June the 22nd, you dweeb!  Try getting out of bed before noon, you mentally lazy moron!  LOL!  Autumn rules!     YUR

Answer:  BERING STRAIT

(Marvelous geography pun!  I loved it!  There were no new clue words today, but three of the jumbles appear to be new.  We’ve definitely seen “nihys” before.  The answer letter layout was a great jumble.  I don’t think it gave anything away.  You needed to be both, familiar with: the idiom Getting your bearings straight, and the geography of western Alaska and eastern Russia.  I’m guessing that Jeff’s cartoon is based on the Discovery Channel show, “Deadliest Catch”.  I’ve never seen it, but I hear that it’s pretty exciting.  Lots of fun!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
