“BAMBOO IS NOT A WEED, IT’S A FLOWERING PLANT. BAMBOO IS A MAGNIFICENT PLANT.” — STEVE LACY
(Our first quote from the great Jazz saxophonist and composer, at least since I’ve been posting these spoilers. I’ve never heard of anybody referring to bamboo as a weed, although I understand it does grow rapidly. I always thought it was in the grass family! Maybe he was smoking another magnificent plant when he came up with this??? Or, is “bamboo” some kind of jazz code for what I was alluding to? This quote did make for a fairly challenging cryptogram though. I got IS NOT A, and IT’S early on, but it wasn’t until I saw MAGNIFICENT that I was able to put it together. I don’t think a whole lot of quotes start with BAMBOO! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
Flowering plant ?
I too thought that bamboo was in the grass family. But, after looking it up, bamboo is classified as a type of “grass” and all grasses are considered flowering plants.
Who knew ?
I’ve never seen flowers on grass. Apparently, scientist don’t have the same definition of “flowering” as the rest of us.
Bless their hearts !
And, as it turns out, Bamboo is a brand of rolling papers (I knew that), and it is a coded reference to the wild-wood weed!
I think when grass gets really long, it gets a beard, like wheat and corn. Maybe that beard is considered a flower.
