Clue/Question: The landlord reduced the young couple’s rent, saying it was the – – –
Answer: “LEASE“ SHE COULD DO
(And, the Military Industrial Complex’s conditioning marches on! Yes, the post 9/11 emergency proclamation has been renewed once again! Nothing temporary about it, like it was supposed to be. I was both surprised and upset to read that 30 of our National Emergency Acts are still in effect, for a period that spans 40 years. And, Congress has never reviewed a single one. They are keeping us on a never ending war footing. No wonder it’s now referred to as the Military Industrial Congressional Complex. They are a big part of the problem. But, sleep on America! Keep bingeing on Netflix and Hulu, and of course YouTube videos. “Reading” our hand-held devices is the 21st Century’s version of burying our heads in the sand.
I wonder why we are getting another LEASE Jumble, in just about a week? That’s a little strange. Oh, well. No new clue words today, but again all the jumbles are coming up as new. “Adopt” spells out in alphabetical order. Excellent answer letter layout! One of the best in long time. Swell cartoon. Maybe this one was originally intended for “Patriot Day”. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

There’s usually nothing ‘temporary’ about things Congress does. Like that ‘temporary’ tax to help fund the Spanish-American War, that was finally repealed a few years back. I think it was a tax on telephones, which weren’t common back then. As far as the Military Industrial Complex, I was hired by the DoD during the beginning of the Reagan build-up years and parlayed that into a 32yr career. 🙂
No worries, mate! I was in banking for 24 years, although I’ve always hated banks. And, I was in and out of pharmaceutical firms for the last 12 years, but I think they’re basically scum too. Really good people are in questionable industries, and we all believe we are doing something worthwhile. — YUR 🙂
Great puzzler. I didn’t really understand “LEASE” as I thought they were purchasing the house. LANDLORD went totally over my head.
