Answer:  HOME RUNS

(There you go!  Exercising from the comfort of his own abode.  With the wife, kid, sleeping pup, and little plaything at his feet.  Fine cartoon.  I saw no new clue words today, but three new jumbles.  We’ve definitely seen “pomoh” before.  I was able to get them all without any struggle.  The answer letter layout was another nifty jumble.  Nothing obvious about it.  Those surprising Spankmes could make some noise in the post season.  On paper, they were supposed to be a year, or so, from making the playoffs, but Joe Girardi has them playing like world beaters.  Plenty of young home run hitters.  Their pitching is still largely hit or miss, but when they’re on they’re good enough.  I guess we’ll see soon enough.  I’ll be pulling for the Twins to pull an upset.  If they don’t, then I’ll be pulling for the Tribe!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

BAMBOO   IS   NOT   A   WEED,   IT’S   A   FLOWERING   PLANT.    BAMBOO   IS   A   MAGNIFICENT   PLANT.”   —   STEVE   LACY

(Our first quote from the great Jazz saxophonist and composer, at least since I’ve been posting these spoilers.  I’ve never heard of anybody referring to bamboo as a weed, although I understand it does grow rapidly.  I always thought it was in the grass family!  Maybe he was smoking another magnificent plant when he came up with this???  Or, is “bamboo” some kind of jazz code for what I was alluding to?  This quote did make for a fairly challenging cryptogram though.  I got IS NOT A, and IT’S early on, but it wasn’t until I saw MAGNIFICENT that I was able to put it together.  I don’t think a whole lot of quotes start with BAMBOO!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  SENTENCES

(Marvelous pun!  I just saw the last 15 minutes, or so, of “The Green Mile” the other night.  Not a bad flick.  I could’ve done without the hocus pocus, and the hokie special effects, but it had its moments.  It’s no “Shawshank Redemption”, of course, but a decent little story.  Great cast, and a cute little mouse.  It’s a shame Michael Clarke Duncan died so young.  What a voice, and what a presence!!!  There are no new clue words today, but three of the jumbles did come up as new.  We’ve definitely seen “sseen” before.  The “iodine” jumble was pretty neat.  It took a couple of looks for me to see “unfit”.  And, “sonuci” sounds like an Italian name, to me!  Aay, cousin Sonuci!  How you doin’?  The answer letter layout was another fine jumble.  Nice cell cell, Jeff.  I’m looking at the reduced sized cartoon today.  Is the heavy-set con leaning against some kind of poster or something?  I can’t make it out.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Pay no attention to the man in the above quote!  It is President Chester A. Arthur, not William Arthur Ward.  Below is a photo – hopefully – of Billy Artie Ward!      YUR

THE  PESSIMIST  COMPLAINS  ABOUT  THE  WIND;  THE  OPTIMIST  EXPECTS  IT  TO  CHANGE;  THE  REALIST  ADJUSTS  THE  SAILS.”   —   WILLIAM ARTHUR  WARD

(Both quotes puts me in mind of the folks who complain about those “son of a bitch” athletes who take a knee during the playing of the National Anthem.  Despite the greatness, and the “goodness”,  of the United States of America, there IS definitely a major problem with institutionalized racism in this country.  It won’t go away by wishing it away.  And, political correctness really just sweeps things under the rug.  Oh, no.  Let’s not talk about it.  Let’s just mask it behind banning words, and coming up with “acceptable alternatives”, like “the N-word”.  That will fix everything!  No, folks.  We have to be willing to talk about it, as adults, not as over-protected toddlers.  And, actually work for the necessary change.  Just like Alcoholics Anonymous tells us:  the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem.  Let’s sober up, and get to work.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  CLOCKED IN

(Uh oh!  Was Colin over-served last night???  Those dastardly pub keepers!  There is no personal responsibility these days, folks.  Our overly litigious society has found a way to always find someone else to blame.  Listen!  I do NOT have a drinking problem.  I drink.  I get drunk.  I fall down.  No problem!

We were treated to all old favorite clue words today.  However, all four jumbles came up as new.  I actually had to skip “posli” and come back to it, after the three other jumbles!  I fell prey to the two syllable jumble for a one syllable word ploy.  Curse you, Hoyt!  LOL!  The answer letter layout was another dandy of a jumble.  Nothing given away.  The cartoon – once again – reinforces our American ignorance about the Tower of Big Ben.  Big Ben is the bell, not the clock.  But, who cares, you Limey bastards?!?!  We’re Americans, and we do, and think, what we want!  So, there!  LOL!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  GAVE POINTERS

(Great stinky pun!  Kinda like a wet dog smell.  Hey, hey, hey!  We have a brand new clue word today in “keeper”.  Our tried and true, buddy blue, ralis95, will have to add this to his world famous clue word database!  Three of the jumbles seem to be new, with “racgli” having definitely been used before.  Superb answer letter layout, once again.  Nothing obvious about it.  And, a fine cartoon.  That pup looks very intense.  That rubber ducky better watch himself.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Love cures people — both the ones who give it and the ones who receive it.”   —   Karl A. Menninger

Answer:  FIT FOR A KING

(“My wife’s cooking is fit for a king.  Here King, here King!”  That’s one of my buddy, Tony’s, favorite gags!  But of course, he actually loves his wife’s cooking.  He has a very sensitive stomach, and likes things on the bland side.  To each his own.  She doesn’t like people calling him Tony though.  She says:  Your name is Anthony.  Why do you let them call you Tony?  Uh . . .  Again, to each his own!

No new clue words today, however three of the jumbles appear to be new.  We’ve surprisingly seen “fimdef” before.  It was the only jumble that I thought was tough.  The answer letter layout was a masterpiece of a jumble.  Very nicely cryptic.  I’m stuck with the reduced-sized cartoon for the next few days, so I can’t make out any clever detail.  Love the big ape though!  The blond sweep of hair is a little different.  If the tie were longer, I’d say Jeff was going for a Donald Trump look!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Image result for Amelia Earhart

You can act to change and control your life; and the procedure.  The process is its own reward.”   —   Amelia Earhart

(I know some of you may have noticed that I changed the comma after “procedure” to a period, and then made the second part of the quote a separate sentence.  The comma felt awkward to me, and when I looked the quote up online I saw it both ways, so I figured others must see it my way.  Who thinks it should be the awkward, run-on sentence, with the comma, and why???  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
