Answer:  RIBBITING

(Ooh!  Very pun-gent!  Of course, it’s a play on the word RIVETING.  But, frogs are known for making the sound RIBBIT, and also some non-Americans pronounce their Vs like Bs.  So, that just adds to it a little.  There were no new clue words today, but three of the jumbles were new.  They’ve used “girdif” before.  Fine answer letter layout.  And, a nice cartoon.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Don’t compromise yourself.  You are all you’ve got.  There is no yesterday, no tomorrow, it’s all the same day.”   —   Janis Joplin

(I loved her, for her talent!  But, it’s awfully hard to take advice from someone who “accidentally” overdosed on heroin, at the age of 27.  I must be getting old.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  THREW IN THE TROWEL

(For those not familiar with the idiom, this is a pun on THROW IN THE TOWEL.  It comes from the sport of boxing, when your fighter is losing badly, but the referee isn’t stopping the fight, the manager will throw in a towel from their corner, to signal to the ref that he/she wants the fight to be over.  And of course, a “trowel” is a small handheld shovel used in gardening.

All of today’s clue words are old favorites, but three of the jumbles came up as new.  We’ve seen “tarreh”, “slawee”, and “toolin” before.  I liked “buyeat” the best.  The answer letter layout was a great jumble that didn’t give anything away.  As usual, it was the leading nature of the clue/question, combined with the visual of our gardener actually tossing her trowel.  Nice little veggie garden.  I hope her quitting is just temporary.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  BLOOD SELLS

(I’ve been an apheresis donor a few times.  But, it’s a longer process than just a straight, whole blood donation.  I haven’t donated at all in a few years, which is too bad, but that’s the way it goes.  Lifetime, I’ve donated over 11 gallons.  They used to seem a lot more appreciative about blood donors than they are nowadays.  I remember all the level pins, attention, and special treatment they used to give you.  Back then, I always said I didn’t care about that stuff, but now that they’ve done away with it, I kind of miss it.  I always hear the demand is still high, but I guess they’ve gone the same way as corporations.  Even contest prizes used to be more substantial.  Now they offer you comparatively meager prizes, and try to make a big deal of it.  They all talk about the “bottom line” and being “responsible to the shareholders”, but I think that’s all a crock.  The fat-cats are just lining their pockets.  They’re even worse than our politicians.

Jumble?  Oh, yeah!  No new clue words, today.  But, three of the jumbles came up as new.  We’ve seen “veell” before.  I thought that “pibsoy” was an excellent jumble.  It took a few looks for me to see biopsy.  Marvelous answer letter layout.  No giveaways!  Great cartoon.  A combination of creepy and hip.  Be well and do good, friends.)   – – –   YUR

(I’m guessing that that has worked for the Supreme One!  Our first quote from her, as far as I can tell.  I don’t live in the past, but I also don’t plan for the future all that well.  I, more or less, live in the moment, and hope for the best.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  LICHEN IT

(I’m LIKIN’ IT, aka:  LIKING IT, myself!  It’s a great pun!  I’m not really a big fan of lichen though, but I know it’s a necessary part of nature.  I can’t imagine it tastes all that great though.  Ugh!  There were no new clue words today, although they are all words we haven’t seen in a while.  All of the jumbles came up as new though.  Great answer letter layout.  Fun cartoon.  I guess deer do eat this stuff, although I can’t believe this stuff is their first choice.  The deer around me eat just about everything else though.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  UNFLAPPABLE

(This one has an air of originality.  It didn’t come off as a retread, like some of them do.  None of today’s clue words are new, but all of the jumbles were.  None of them tripped me up though.  The answer letter layout was a great, cryptic jumble.  Nothing obvious about it.  The cartoon is a great backyard scene.  Nice yappy dog, and a very handsome cardinal.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
