Cryptoquote Spoiler(?) 06/21/17

(Okay!  Now, THIS is a formal request for help!  I’m looking at today’s Cryptoquote, but I simply cannot get started.  With the question marks, I wrote down WHO, WHAT, WHEN WHERE, and WHY, but the first four can’t possibly be the first word.  So, WHY, HOW, ARE , ONE, and CAN come to mind, but I can’t seem to make any of them work with the rest of the quote.  Art and hal are usually my go to guys with tough Cryptoquotes, but I will accept hints from anyone!  Many thanks.)     YUR

(I just received some much needed help on this one.  Please see below.)   —   YUR

The stone fell on the pitcher?  Woe to the pitcher.  The pitcher fell on the stone?  Woe to the pitcher.”   —   Jewish Proverb

(Please see my reply to hal.   I’m done for a while, folks.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

It gave me trouble too, UR. “The stone fell on the pitcher? Woe to the stone.” Etc. Jewish proverb. I’m not sure what it means; I’m hoping there is a pun on pitcher = water vessel and pitcher = guy on the mound in baseball.

Use “the” as the most common word in today’s quote .. and try to figure out the source .. if you do that, the rest should fall into place ..

Thanks, Ronald. I didn’t get a chance to try it with your clue, as hal just gave me half of the quote! — YUR

More than I really wanted, but thanks, hal. I guess the “pitcher”, probably being some kind of earthenware, will always lose to the “stone”, no matter which one does the falling. I think this is a MAJOR sign that I need to take a break of some kind. See you in . . . a while, pal.

A shame. Folks should learn to just give you a soupçon of a hint. I figured that with all those Os, the first word had to be THE, even though it didn’t immediately make sense with the question marks. It immediately fell into place.

I should’ve allowed for inflection, Art! I’ve been doing this for too long. I’m a little frazzled. Thanks for your support, sir. — YUR
