Answer:  COMPARED NOTES

(“A little better, all the time.”  Another one of the figurative/literal puns!  Love, love, love it!  None of today’s clue words are new, but two of the jumbles are.  We’ve seen “wornc” and “spymik” in the past.  For whatever reason – because sometimes I’m a big dope – I initially spelled “exceed” EXCEDE!  But of course, that didn’t matter because all it did was change the order of the letters in the answer letter layout, and not the letters themselves.  But, the answer letter layout was a splendid jumble, either way!  The cartoon was a nice depiction of John and Paul in a late 1960s studio.  I was living on W.72nd St, just about 5 or 6 buildings down the block from The Dakota, on the night that John was shot.  He had been shot around 11:00 PM, or so.  When you live in the city you quickly become numb to sirens, and most commotions.  But, around 2:30, or 3:00AM, I was awoken to the sound of people singing “Give Peace a Chance”.  Now, that was definitely something different.  I had work the next morning, so I went back to sleep, as oblivious as before.  My alarm clock/radio clued me in to the situation upon awakening.  As tragic and bizarre as the event was, at least the singing  finally made sense to me.  The world certainly has its share of mentally unbalanced people, who will do anything to make a name for themselves.  I think we really have to invest more in public mental health.  There are too many people out there who are hurting.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

I would have never figured that out, but of course now it makes perfect sense, even with the spelling error jk 😉 Loved Lennon and McCartney, but leaned a little bit towards Lennon. Wish they could have made peace with each other before he was shot.

    Wow, fascinating comments today, UR!

Better be careful – you are close to giving your age away.

I actually leaned a little more towards Paul, until shortly before John was shot. Paul and Bruce Smith share a birthday with me! And after all, he was “the cute one”. LOL! — YUR

I’m glad you said that, jenn. And not: ‘You’ve told us that one before, Unc!’ With nine years of posts I can see myself starting to repeat myself! It happens to all of us eventually. — YUR

I’ll be 60 in June, John. I’m told I look younger. I definitely feel younger. — YUR

Ha, and John Lennon almost shares MY birthday. He was born on Oct 9th, I’m the 11th. We’re astrological soul mates. Let’s just hope we don’t share the same fate. Yikes.

Well, your birthday is my anniversary! I get along very well with Libras. Maybe that’s why John and Paul made such great music together. — YUR

UR, even my 22 year-old repeats herself on occasion, so no worries! I’ve told the kids that when I repeat myself, just hold up fingers for how many times I’ve recounted the same story. =) PS, I initially and stubbornly had ‘composed’ for the first word, rather than ‘compared’, and boy, did that throw me off!

Amazing and heartbreaking story. Uncle. A day that changed our lives and that of millions. I’ve read James Taylor was also living nearby and heard the shots while on the phone with a friend. He couldn’t possibly know that it was John’s last moments on Earth. I’m closer in birthdays to George – a second-tier Beatle, he’d say – and always avoid that pickle of having to choose any one over another. But in my childhood’s ‘band,’ when we used brooms for guitars, I was Paul. And so was the walrus, it seems. Last point: when the second pic came out, we all thought that we were seeing the passage of time on their faces. Now they look so equally young in both photos, it’s almost unreal. We’re the ones aging, I’m afraid. Cheers

JT may have been living in The Dakota back then, or maybe he was living in The San Remo, like Mick Jagger was back in the day. It was always cool seeing famous people in the street, when I was living on W. 72nd St. I used to frequent the same deli as Tiny Tim! LOL! One day I told him I was a fan, and asked him: ‘do I call you Tiny, or Mr. Tim?’ And he replied: ‘Mr. Tim would be fine.’

Who you callin’ old, brother??? LOL!

I think Sweet Baby James was living around the corner from the Dakota, which I visited in the 80s. Went to Albert Maysles’ ground floor apartment (my friend used to work for him). It was also the first time I saw Sean. Anyway, by your pic, you look a little older than a teenager, so no, I didn’t mean to call you er elderly (no one needs to know it’s not a recent shot). Tiny Tim? how come this guy ever became that famous?

Uncle Rave…I thought your followers might be interested in this. Just an FYI in case you wanted to include mention and a link in your post today for people to check out. Jeff is so amazing! It’s pretty cool that it’s a sneak peek at tomorrow’s puzzle. — DLH

Do you want to watch a video of the amazingly talented artist Jeff Knurek drawing tomorrow’s Jumble cartoon? Then check out his new video on @playjumble on Twitter at the link below. He talks about the drawing and you can watch him draw it from beginning to end. He doesn’t reveal the answer, so you’ll still need to play the puzzle in the newspaper tomorrow!

Thank you for playing Jumble and for giving us such fun jobs! We sure do appreciate it.

The later 60s embraced the wild and whacky, and Mr. Tim was definitely whacky! — YUR
