Jumble Spoiler – 01/06/17

Answer:  “ROW–MEN“ EMPIRE

(I sometimes confuse my Roman mythology with the Greek.  I was looking to see if the she-wolf had a name, so I Googled Castor and Pollux.  Oops!  They were a couple of Greek mythology dudes, and not the Romulus and Remus, who – allegedly – were the founders of Rome, that I should have been thinking of.  But as usual, I eventually found what I was looking for.  I can’t seem to find a name for the she-wolf, who was said to have suckled the abandoned twin boys.  I kind of doubt it was Fifi, or even Lady, but you’d think the Romans would of come up with some name for a creature of such importance.  Maybe, for the sake of the idea of the twins ferocity, they decided to keep it at “she-wolf”.  Naming her may have humanized her some, and that probably didn’t jibe with their story.   The guys probably just grunted out a form of Mom anyway.

There are no new clue words today.  Two of the jumbles appear to be new, while the other two, “gomiz” and “tynpar” have definitely been used before.  All four of them jumped off of the page, for me.  The answer letter layout was a wonderful jumble.  It did a very nice job of disguising the answer.  It was the cartoon that had all the necessary clues.  The sails of the ships, showing Romulus and Remus suckling at the teets of the she-wolf, and the preponderance of oars, made it easy to fill in the quotation marks.  I hope you all caught the, fairly subtle, sinking warship on the horizon, in the upper right of the cartoon.  I nearly missed it!  Very clever, Jeff!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
