(Very clever. And, for about half a minute I was thinking: Not again! Yesterday’s really caught me off guard, folks. For whatever reason, I didn’t see that the word YOU could have been used twice in the answer. And, obviously, I didn’t see the word BET. Thank you, to everyone who wrote in with the answer!
All of today’s clue words were old favorites, as was one of the jumbles, in “sipeo”. The other three jumbles came up as new. I didn’t think any of them were difficult. The answer letter layout was a nicely cryptic jumble. I didn’t think it gave anything away. It was the quotation marks that put me on the right track. The cartoon was, once again, very fun. I liked the name of the shop: Pop Your Cork.
Two really big occasions to report today. One I’m sure you’ve heard by now. John Glenn passed away yesterday, at the age of 95. He was a Korean War fighter pilot hero, the first American to orbit the earth, and a four term Senator from Ohio. He even went back into space at the ripe old age of 77! There are numerous John Glenn Roads and Ways and such, all around the country. He was the quintessential American hero, who grew to be a true American icon. Not to mention that he was married to his lovely wife, Annie, for 73 years. What a man! The other monumental occasion is Mr. Kirk Douglas turned 100 today! He starred in so many great iconic movies over the years, from boxers to cowboys to musicians, and from soldiers to painters. He even played Vikings and leaders of slave revolts. A great actor, and another great American. Plus, there’s a slew of other famous people celebrating birthdays today: Buck Henry, Dame Judith Dench, Beau Bridges, Dick Butkus, Michael Nouri, Tom Kite, Joan Armatrading, John Malkovich, Donny Osmond, Mario Cantone, Felicity Huffman, and Crown Princess Masako! Also, Kurt Angle and Simon Helberg, and a bunch of youngish celebs . . . I’ve never heard of! Happy Birthday to Kirk and everyone else celebrating a birthday today.
