Clue/Question: The railroad sold off their older surplus boxcars because they were – – –

Answer: “EX–TRAIN–EOUS“
(Excellent pun, and a great Jumble! None of today’s clue words are new, but three of the jumbles are. We’ve seen “tinyu” before. Hoyt’s answer letter layout is a masterpiece of a jumble. Because of the UN, standing out near the middle, I thought that the first two letters of the answer was going to be UN. Fortunately, I didn’t spend any time on that misguided/misdirected notion. Then I was seeing the word EXTRA, and thought it was the five letter, center portion, of the answer. I wasn’t even seeing the word TRAIN at that point. But as I under-hashed the EXTRA letters, I was left with SUNOIE, and I knew I couldn’t do anything with that. So, I looked at the cartoon and clue/question for the word they were trying hard NOT to use, and I realized it was TRAIN, and then I saw the pun. Funny how EXTRA does come up in the answer anyway! Just broken up a little. I’m working with the reduced-sized cartoon, but I can see that Jeff did a great job with it. Especially the graffiti DAVE and JEFF on the boxcars in the background. Lots of fun. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
