(Wow!  The guys better watch out if Rich Powell ever decides to publish a competing Jumble.  This guest Jumble was a knockout.  No new clue words today.  I saw “brick” right away, but I first saw cleric before “relic” hit home.  “Cougar” took about two or three seconds to sink in.  But, it was “farotm” that had me guessing.  And, it even forced me to write out various combinations.  And, you know yer uncle is kind of lazy when it comes to that.  I tried to back into it, but without the FRT I had no idea what the answer was going to be.  I did see BOAR, but without the FRT there was no way I was seeing TERRIFIC.  I did a bunch of combos in my head, to no avail.  Finally, I wrote out ROMAFT/RAMOFT/MORAFT/MAROFT/FORTAM.  FORTAM finally did the trick, for me.  Not surprisingly, all of the jumbles came up as new.  The answer letter layout made for a great jumble.  I wouldn’t be surprised if some of you had trouble getting today’s answer, even if you didn’t have the problem that I had getting “format”.  And, the cartoon is really great.  Plenty of depth and detail, and very humorous.  My paper doesn’t carry Wide Open, but if it’s as good as his Jumble entry I’d welcome seeing it.  Great job, Mr. Powell.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Like you, I thought ‘cleric’ before solving it as ‘relic’. And don’t even get me started on FAROTM! Whew- Definitely on the #!*#!! toughie word list! Couldn’t figure out if half the answer was going to be ‘bore’ or ‘boar’….Due to the ‘take my sow, please’ joke, I wonder if the boar is the swine-esque version of Henny Youngman? And I thought his sloppy garb was reminiscent of Rodney Dangerfield. Great picture, great words/puzzle…a real Wowser of a Jumble today, well done!

But sure enjoyed the cartoonist’s work today!!!! That boar is one not so pretty creature Unc! That little yawning boy is so precious!! LL

Brilliant Jumble, Rich! Thoroughly enjoyed solving it. It had all the clues and was yet hard. FORMAT took me around 30 seconds to solve. Like UR, I had to write out several combinations. It was in my “tougher words” list and has been upgraded to the “toughest words” list now. For the final answer, I figured that the second word must be a kind of pig, but couldn’t come up with a word. So, I took the hard route of solving for the first word. Thankfully, after about two minutes, I came up with TERRIFIC, and *then*, the pun dawned on me. Super, super puzzle.
