Visual Description: The annual Fall tradition.
NURADO = AROUND, TCLOHB = BLOTCH, TEINEC = ENTICE, LOVETR = REVOLT, MIYFAN = INFAMY, SERYDS = DRESSY — Giving us: AOBLECEEVNFAESS
Clue/Question: Foliage has a steady job on trees until the – – –
Pre-Answer: Three Words “(6-letters)” (2-letters) (7-letters)
Answer: “LEAVES“ OF ABSENCE
(An excellent autumnal pun! This has a nice ring of originality to it. There were no new clue words today, but four of the jumbles came up as new. We’ve definitely seen “nurado” and “seryds” before. The answer letter layout was a superb jumble, that did a great job of disguising the answer. The combination of the quotation marks, the cartoon leaves, and the use of the word “foliage”, made the first answer word fairly obvious to me. And the cartoon’s words “job” and “break” brought the rest of the pun to light. Fun cartoon. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
I gave up and looked up the answer. Then I realized why it was so hard. Only 14 letters were circled and there are 15 spaces. There was no “c” circled. But good puzzle anyway.
Oh no I’m so sorry! I had actually written “encite” (which is not a word) instead of “entice” and that’s why I was missing a “c”. Please ignore previous comment!!
I thought this one was especially clever, but as you say the word “foliage” was a big factor in determining the answer.
Yes, Bill. Very often it’s the substitution words that are the biggest clues. — YUR
I initially thought the answer was SEASON OF , but couldn’t find a suitable third word. Then, the word “foliage” clued me in to LEAVES, but even with OF or (more unlikely BE) as the second word, I just couldn’t unscramble the remaining letters to get the third word. After a while, I gave up. Perhaps, I might have got the answer if I had access to the cartoon. Nice one!
Lawdy! Been chewing on the answer for a few days. I flew through the clue words…always a clue the puzzler is going to be not easy. Just knew LEAVES OF had to be there, but could make nothing of the remaining letters. I was going in such a very different direction…..like AUTUMN, FALLING, etc. Something to do with the two remaining leaves on the tree. Then I decided I needed to work harder with the letters I had remaining….voila! Tricky, tricky, tricky 🙂
Goodness UNC! Such absolutely gorgeous fall pics. Thank you!! LL
My pleasure, LL. Thanks for noticing. — YUR
This one took me awhile but was sticking to “leaves” and of.Then finally it hit me with ” our job is done here”
