Visual Description: North Tarrytown throwdown!
GIRTE = TIGER, RODBO = BROOD, TANGEM = MAGNET, NAGHEC = CHANGE — Giving us: TIEOODMANCHAG
Clue/Question: The battle between Sleepy Hollow’s horsemen was – – –
Answer: COMING TO A HEAD
(Fairly challenging Jumble answer! All the clue words were pretty simple, old reliables. But, at least all the jumbles were new. I thought the answer letter layout was a marvelous jumble. I didn’t find anything about it to be obvious, what-so-ever! The cartoon was great. Although, I was stuck with the reduced size version. Besides the jack-o-lanterns doing a head-to-head, also the horses are doing a head-to-head! Excellent! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
Note to self: HEAD should be part of the final answer if there is a mention of Sleepy Hollow. This sort of clue has appeared in the past but it took me a good 15 seconds to figure out that HEAD should be in the answer. My initial thought (before I had HEAD figured out) was that the middle words were IN A. Then, I thought the answer was HEADED IN A —-, but the answer letter layout was missing an extra ‘ED’. So, I went to —- IN A HEAD. The leftover letters were COMTOG, which of course couldn’t give me a reasonable word. That finally led me to the real answer: COMING TO A HEAD. The clue words were straightforward. TIGER used to be in my “tougher words” list and MAGNET in the “tough words” list, but they have been scrubbed off the lists. Excellent cartoon, as UR described. I did not notice that the horses are head to head as well. Very nicely done, Jeff and David!
What a fun Halloween puzzler!!! Geesh, I need to pay more attention. I just knew HEAD had to be in the answer….but I had no E…Had carried it down wrong 😦 If I had not found TO A HEAD, I don’t think that I would have found COMING quickly. LL
This solution gave me all kinds of fits. I initially had ‘in a head’, which kept me off course. Another all-around terrific Jumble!
MAGNET gave me the most problem. I got the answer pretty quickly once I looked at it.
The cartoon was great, I liked the owl watching things, in front of the full moon.
I found several days this week quite difficult. But today’s popped up easily. Just thought of the headless horseman & decided on “to a” rather than “in a”. The rest was simple. But it was fun to do. Always fun when you can solve it!
It was a great cartoon, wasn’t it? — YUR
But, it’s a little more fun when you have to work some to get it! Thanks for commenting, Barb! — YUR
Hello from Rochester NY where Claire and are attending the GAME Conference (Gaming As Meaning Education http://www.ala.org/aasl/GAME ) with our GIANT Word WInder and Giant Math Winder. Very nice people here. I was just checking in to so what people thought about the COMING TO A HEAD Jumble. I received a bunch of e-mails yesterday ranging from “too easy” to “couldn’t solve it.” It’s one of the better examples of a puzzle that is very easy for some and very difficult for others. I was thinking this would be the case when I came up with up. I just love Jeff’s cartoon for this one. He’s so amazing. I get such pleasure out of seeing his amazing Jumble cartoons. They almost always come out better than I envisioned. It’s fun to work with someone so talented!
Both of y’all are amazing!!!! I am always in awe. Thank you!!! LL
I just drove back from Rochester, NY, this afternoon. Just got in about an hour ago. I knew there was something called The Fringe Festival going on. What was the venue of the GAME Conference?
Stats-wise COMING TO A HEAD was pretty challenging! I had nearly 4000 visits yesterday. I generally average between 2500 – 3000 a day. It took me a good few seconds to see the answer! And, the Jumble is getting a nice amount of comments. I liked Jeff’s cartoon, but I really want to see it in the regular size. (The Democrat & Chronicle runs the reduced version.)

I would have loved to have seen you in Rochester. We got in Friday and are leaving shortly (Sunday). This conference was at the Radisson Riverside. We posted some photos at https://www.facebook.com/giantwordwinder/
Jeff and David, I ditto LL’s thoughts, you all are the tops..I so appreciate the imagination and creativity involved! And David, the Word/Math Winder…WOW.
The Giant Word Winder is so amazing. I’m thinking that our library should look into it Hoyt. Would that be appropriate? We have kin that “heads up” the children’s area.
Thanks! If anyone wants to watch our “How to Play” GIANT Word Winder and GIANT Math Winder videos, they can go to:
