Answer: BOXED THEM UP
(Pugilistic pun! I love it. I’ve always been a big fan of The Sport of Kings. Both of them, for that matter, since they sometimes call horse racing the same darn thing. They also call Boxing: The Sweet Science. A lot of people just see boxing as fighting/brawling, and there have been a number of “boxers” who have gotten by with that mentality. But, boxing is really much more cerebral than most people think. You score points by landing blows, but it’s just as much about avoiding being hit. By blocking your opponents punches, by bobbing and weaving and feinting, by using smart footwork, and by clinching when necessary. The smartest boxers learn how to use the entire ring, including the ropes. It’s very macho to just stand toe to toe, throwing hay-makers at each other, but that’s not really boxing, and most boxers realize that that makes for a very short career. So, don’t dismiss boxing as some general brutality, because there is much more to it. MMA is much more brutal, but at least they keep those fights at 3 – 5 rounds.
No new clue words, today. However, three of the jumbles came up as new. They’ve given us “toonim” in the past. None of the jumbles stumped me any. The answer letter layout was a wonderfully cryptic jumble. It gave nothing away. It actually took me a few seconds to see the answer. Great cartoon. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
