LEYIKL = LIKELY, XTEMEP = EXEMPT, MIRIPA = IMPAIR, ZIFELZ = FIZZLE, PARURO = UPROAR, CATEPU = TEACUP — Giving us: ILEEIPZZLPRRTU
Clue/Question: The writers played tug-o-war at their outing. The winners would get a – – –
Pre-Answer: Two Words “(4-letters)-(2-letters)-(3-letters)” (5-letters)
Answer: “PULL–IT–ZER“ PRIZE
(A very stinky pun! No new clue words, but five of the jumbles are coming up as new. We have definitely seen “catepu” in the past. The answer letter layout was beautifully cryptic. A really great jumble. The cartoon is very entertaining. I’m sure Jeff and David know all the relevant characters. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
Hey, here’s an idea: instead of phony renditions of the National Anthem, what about players engaging in a friendly, celebratory tug of war before the game? It’d help everybody warm up even before the first kick and it’d be so unexpected that sponsors would take some time to get behind the action, which would be excellent. After a very long time, and at least for a few years, we’d finally have ad-free action going on the football field. You’re welcome.
Love, love, loved this! Good pics Unc. I rather breezed through the clue words and got stuck on TEACUP for crying out loud! Had I not seen pull immediately, I would have probably been stuck on the answer. Pull and the Zs then made it pretty easy to solve. Pretty clever! LL
Very, very nice. I had to think a second for TEACUP (which was in my “toughest words” list but has made the move to the “tough words” list now) but the rest were instant. For the final answer, I figured that the first word was PULL, and all the Zs in the answer letter layout clued me in to PRIZE. PULL-IT-ZER then became evident. Lovely clue and answer letter jumble.
I’d pay a dollar to see that! — YUR
