(Great Friday pun!  None of the clue words are new, but all of the jumbles are.  I saw all the clue words instantly.  The answer letter layout was very very good.  I can see some of you struggling to get today’s answer.  I always like cartoons with dogs!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Hey Unc. Loved this cartoon and the puzzler. The doggie pic is great!

But it was so bittersweet and caught me off guard. My sweet little 8 year old baby came sick in mid-August…bottom line was cancer of the salivary gland that had spread to her lungs. Heart wrenching…and today’s cartoon reminded me of how we were always greeted like we’d been gone forever, be it out of a room or on a trip. Unconditional love for sure!

Actually got through the clue words and puzzler rather quickly today. The answer after I figured out there was not an ING word in the answer!

    Take care. LL

PS — enjoyed seeing the past doggie jumblers again…love the “fetching” cartoon!

I’m so sorry for your loss, LindaLee. It’s been a little over a year since we lost our Ginger to cancer, so I know how you feel. I just got back today from taking care of my Mom. I was gone since noon on Monday, and my dog Wally leaped straight up in the air when I came through the door tonight. He ran up and down the stairs barking his head off, asking where I’d been. It’s a great way to come home!

Thanks Unc. Squeeze Wally for me! What a wonderful thing you are doing — taking care of your mom. It is something that you will never ever regret. You are a good “boy”!! LL

Sorry for your losses, LL and UR. Great to hear that you take care of your mom, UR. It’s sad that this is not more common in Western culture. In several Asian countries, including India and China, this is routine practice.

I don’t understand the pun in this Jumble, and as a result took nearly a minute to solve it. I knew the first word should be WELCOME and felt that the second word should end in ING, so I came up with WELCOME WAGING, but that made no sense. Then, I was stuck. Finally, I tried WAGGIN and it worked (in the online version, you know that you solved the Jumble because the answer is “accepted”). CANOPY took me a couple of seconds and GROWTH a little bit longer.

Once upon a time . . . back when America was GREAT – for white folk, at least – there was a *service* know as the “Welcome Wagon”, and it served to make new families’ transitions to their new homes much easier. I guess it was sponsored by the local chambers of commerce, or something. Anyway, it’s from a bygone era, but the expression of: ‘rolling out the welcome wagon’ still exists. The happy dogs, waggin’ their tails, is very welcoming to the owners. So, that is what made the pun.

Hey, LL, I am so very very sorry about hearing of your beloved doggie. And I do remember your Ginger, UR, she and my Sunny were born on the same day, same year. Sunny was diagnosed with lymphoma and cancer in intestines about 7 weeks ago. On Dr H’s recommendation, she was put on steroids and some other meds, and has been doing real well, although our vet said it could be days or weeks till we have to take her on her final car ride to his office. We are grateful for every single day we have left with her. Hugs to you both, LL and UR. (and a treat for Wally!) Jumble- this was a fabulous answer, IMO… ‘the guyz’ are coming up with great puns, great drawings/clues!

I’m so sorry to hear about your Sunny, jenn! I hope her final days are as comfortable as possible, and you guys can make the most of your remaining time together. At least you are having some time to prepare, and you can be with her when the time comes. Take care, jenn.

UR, I’m sorry, I’m a ding dong, I meant to wish your mom good health when I commented previously. And bless you for going out to help her out.
