GAEIL  =  AGILE,  RODPO  =  DROOP,  MYLOBS  =  SYMBOL,  NOHHOC  =  HONCHO   —   Giving us:  AGEDROYMOHNO

Clue/Question:  The popular choir was paid to perform around the world and made – – –

Answer:  GOOD HARMONEY

(Hey!  I like this pun.  Nice and stinky!  No new clue words, however three of the jumbles did come up as new, today.  They’ve definitely used “nohhoc” before.  The answer letter layout was a thing of beauty.  A super-duper jumble, that did a swell job of hiding the answer.  The paper that I’m using today has the reduced sized Jumble, so I can’t comment on any interesting details there might be in the cartoon.  But, it surely got the point across!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Cryptoquote Spoiler – 09/30/16

Image result for michelle pfeiffer

I act for free, but I demand a huge salary as compensation for all the annoyance of being a public personality.”   —   Michelle Pfeiffer

(Which might be why we haven’t seen much of her in the last three years!  Just kidding.  I’m sure it has more to do with Hollywood’s bias against aging female – beauty – actresses, and her not taking roles that she doesn’t like.  It looks like we will be seeing more of her in 2017 though!  IMDB is showing four movies, one made for TV, currently in post-production.  She’s still a very beautiful woman.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Jumble Spoiler – 09/29/16

Image result for scary clowns

Visual Description:  Having “fun” with baby bro.

SERDS  =  DRESS,  OTFAO  =  AFOOT,  ROLISA  =  SAILOR,  PEGIMA  =  MAGPIE   —   Giving us:  DRSFOAIMAI

Clue/Question:  When asked if the horror film was too scary for his little brother, he said – – –

Image result for nice clowns

Answer:  IM AFRAID SO

(C’mon!  You know that he did this on purpose!  That’s what some/a lot of big brothers do.  LOL!  No new clue words today, but three of the jumbles came up as new.  They’ve given us “serds” before.  I thought all three of the new jumbles were very good, especially “pegima” and “rolisa”.  “Afoot” is one of those words that spells out in alphabetical order.  The answer letter layout was another nifty jumble.  The cartoon is a hoot.  The intentionally scary clown came from the warped imaginations of a few poor slobs who seemed to find the benign clowns scary.  They come from the same kind of kids who thought that Santa Claus was “scary”.  I never had that problem, but I know that they’re out there.  You just never know.  I even once knew a girl who was scared to death of butterflies!  Can you imagine?  LOL!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Cryptoquote Spoiler – 09/29/16

Image result for gracie allen

I was so surprised at being born that I didn’t speak for a year and a half.”   —   Gracie Allen

(The more talented half of the Burns and Allen comedy team!  It seems a little strange to me, but this appears to be the first Gracie Allen quote, since I’ve been posting these spoilers.  She was so good at playing a dizzy dame!  Today’s cryptoquote wasn’t spectacularly difficult, but it took a lot more time than yesterday’s to get started.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Jumble Spoiler – 09/28/16

Image result for litter

Visual Description:  Stinky artistic license!

LORTL  =  TROLL,  LITUQ  =  QUILT,  FILRAY  =  FAIRLY,  GEELLA  =  ALLEGE   —   Giving us:  TLLTIRYALE

Clue/Question:  When he said the U.S. produces 200 million tons of trash annually, he meant it – – –

Image result for litter

Answer:  LITTERALLY

(Cute, stretch of a pun.  None of the clue words were new, but three of the jumbles came up as new.  They’ve used “lortl” before.  I thought that “filray” was a great jumble.  It took me a couple of seconds to see “fairly”.  The answer letter layout was an excellent jumble!  Nothing obvious about it, at all.  If you really want to be “litter-al”, trash – properly disposed of – is NOT litter.  And, if you want to really get literal, not all litter is trash.  I wonder which came first though, the noun or the verb?  Hmm.  I’d kinda bet on the verb.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Cryptoquote Spoiler – 09/28/16

Image result for craftsman

There are two men inside the artist:  the poet and the craftsman.  One is born a poet.  One becomes a craftsman.”   —   Emile Zola

(This one was too easy!  Just as I was printing this from the Arkansas Online site, I was saying to myself I could probably solve this without printing it out.  But, too late.  It’s a great quote, though.  I’ve been known to “craft” a poem, from time to time, but clearly I’m no poet.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Jumble Spoiler – 09/27/16

Image result for Godzilla

Visual Description:  Atomic monster stomp.

NORGP  =  PRONG,  DYRAT  =  TARDY,  TETXEN  =  EXTENT,  SOLFIS  =  FOSSIL   —   Giving us:  PNTETOSI

Clue/Question:  To destroy the town and get home for dinner, Godzilla had to – – –

Image result for Godzilla

Answer:  STEP ON IT

(Not bad.  No new clue words today.  But, three of the jumbles are new.  They’ve used “norgp” before.  Super answer letter layout.  Really great jumble.  The cartoon was super distracting for me!  I always try to do these Jumbles very systematically, but I was so tempted to look at the cartoon and clue/question, because of Jeff’s great Godzilla!  Lots of fun today.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Any subject can be made interesting, and therefore any subject can be made boring.”   —   Hilaire Belloc

Cryptoquote Spoiler – 09/26/16

Image result for Charlie "Bird" Parker

They teach you there’s a boundary line to music.  But, man, there’s no boundary line to art.”   —   Charlie Parker

(Except in coloring books!  But, feel free to color outside the lines anyway!  “Bird” knew not to listen to the naysayers.  Be well, be brave and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Jumble Spoiler – 09/26/16

Image result for Arnold Palmer

Visual Description:  Boxed in by the Big 10.

TAIPO  =  PATIO,  TOHUY  =  YOUTH,  SOPSIG  =  GOSSIP,  SARTYP  =  PASTRY   —   Giving us:  TIUHGPT

Clue/Question: After getting stuck in a middle seat at 30,000 feet,  she was – – –

Image result for Arnold Palmer

Answer:  UPTIGHT

(Maybe she can switch to the aisle seat.  Boy, those economy seats are really crammed together, aren’t they?  There were no new clue words, however all of the jumbles did come up as new.  Decent answer letter layout, for a seven letter answer.  Cute cartoon.  You can see the displeasure on the face of the captive audience.  Maybe she can pull a Moe Howard, and bonk their heads together!

Boy.  We were just wishing Arnie a Happy Birthday a couple of weeks ago, and now he has left us!  Such a shame.  Another one of my heroes bites the dust.  Arnold Palmer made golf what it is today.  His combination of skill and charisma transformed golf from a snooty, elitist game, to an every man’s populist sport.  He was Muhammad Ali before there even was a Muhammad Ali . . . but for golf.  People loved him, and he loved people.  I was one of the many lucky people to get his autograph.  A beloved American icon.  He will be greatly missed.  Rest in peace, Arnie!

Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
