Answer:  SILLYCON VALLEY

(I thought this one really required more description, for all of you who do this without the benefit of the Sunday newspaper.  I thought it made for a really great pun!  Of course this one is silly, but there are far too many of the perceived Chinese/Asian “cures” that rely on the body parts of endangered species.  All kinds of ivory, rhino horn, bear gall bladders, tiger penises, shark fins, etc., etc., are sought after for these archaic medical “beliefs”.  They fuel a sick black market that rewards poachers, and endangers entire species with extinction.  These “traditions” should have died off long ago, but too many people are addicted to the myths – lies actually – and are allergic to the facts.  They are as pathetic as climate change deniers.

Guess what?  No new clue words are in this puzzle.  All of the jumbles, with the exception of “pesyel” are new though.  The only one that gave me any trouble was “verbal”.  The answer letter layout was a beautifully cryptic jumble!  It really gave nothing away.  Nice job, Mr. Hoyt.  And, the cartoon was classic Jeff Knurek.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

I got all the words easily enough, but could not solve the final answer. Maybe the cartoon would have helped. I was thinking of ONLINE as the second word of the final answer, but there was only one N. Other than that, I really didn’t have any good leads.

UR, I couldn’t agree more about the Asian “cures”.

I was hoping the mentioning of San Jose would help. In the cartoon there is a poster for the San Jose Sharks on the wall. — YUR

I didn’t notice that, UR. Thanks for trying to help with your visual description. I should have paid closer attention. Also, in hindsight, I should have thought of the Bay Area and Silicon Valley since this was about computer programmers. Oh, well.
