Very cute pun! The cartoon did a GREAT job of guiding us. Buddy => friends; bug => pest. I saw FRIENDS right away and unscrambling the rest to get PEST was easy. I had some trouble with SUSHI but the rest of the words were instant. TRIPLE and FEMALE were in my “toughest words” and “tough words” lists, respectively. Both have been removed from the lists! SUSHI has found its way into the “tougher words” list.

I know, VJ. The first time we saw SUSHI, a few months ago (on a Saturday), it baffled me too. It’s another of those words that the esteemed Henri Arnold and Bob Lee would NOT have used back in the 1970s! Thanks to Dave & Jeff for bringing in some new words.

Not seeing the puzzle anymore. What happened?

SUSHI was the last word found. I figured PEST was one of the words once I got all the clue letters. YUR would probably say the pun is a stinky one.

SUSHI was hard! I gave up on the solution, even after I had looked for clues in the cartoon. Vnatraji, you pointed that out well!

    Wanda,

I’ve decided to give the people what they want. Most of the visitors have no interest in my commentary, and only want to see the unjumbled clue words and final answer. I’ve gotta roll with the punches, and make lemonade out of the lemons.

Well, speaking for myself, YUR, I do like the commentary. After all, this place is called Uncle Rave’s Wordy Weblog. It’s not called Uncle Rave’s Jumble Answers only. I will say I wasn’t much for the pictures, but sometimes they were interesting. But the comments were usually pretty good, as befitting a weblog.

Though I have wondered at times where your comments in this section seem to reference a lot of visitors who drop in to talk about words and answers and the like. And sometimes David says the same. I’ve never seen anything resembling that here. And some months back, there was the contest to get a copy of the ralis95 list; I did a reply but for some reason, it wasn’t one of the responses picked, even though there were only 3 replies here. So, I’m confused about that. :/

    Damid,

I’m having some difficulty understanding these sentences of yours:

“Though I have wondered at times where your comments in this section seem to reference a lot of visitors who drop in to talk about words and answers and the like. And sometimes David says the same. I’ve never seen anything resembling that here.”

Could you restate this for me, please?

But, as for the clue word database contest, that ran in early December, there were 5 replies to the post itself, and a few others that were linked either to another day’s Jumble, or perhaps even a Cryptoquote, (It’s really hard tracking older comments! I would have to really dig to find yours, because it’s not one of the 5 from the contest post.) I believe your response MAY have been longer than the 20 words, or less, that ralis95 stipulated in his rules for the contest. Here is the link to the contest, showing that there were at least 5 replies:

You might have to cut and paste, I can’t tell as I’m writing this.

I can get the answers anywhere. We need our Jumbles dissected the way only you, Uncle Rave, can do. I’ve checked here everyday for the last several years to see what you have to say about our puns, words and of course, my cartoons. DON’T STOP!

Well, I haven’t been able to find much in the past month on what I was talking about specifically, but the two I did find were somewhat related. Your comments on 22 Jun and 24 Jun where you said the site got lots of hits due to the difficulty. On 22 Jun you commented you got a lot of people searching on the word TUSHIA (something like that). And on 24 Jun, you mention that you’d have to see the hits results for 23 Jun which we thought was a tough puzzle day.

Now I don’t really know how your site actually works, but where I look and comment is where the puzzles are shown and the answers listed and since all the words are listed, how can you search on TUSHIA by itself?

As I said, those are the two I can find that came close. I can’t specifically remember when the more apt ones were; I’m thinking within the last 90 days or so. I’d have to look more.

Thanks, bud! But the lack of “Likes” and comments on my views and observations have been taking a toll on me. Just putting out the unjumbled clue words and the answer takes WAY less effort than coming up with the Visual Descriptions, setting it all up similar to your puzzle in the paper, selecting colors, emboldening the answer letters, writing up the review and adding what I thought might be amusing and/or interesting to the readers, and trying to find relevant pictures and related articles. The readers like LindaLee and hal will comment on MY content at times, but most just comment on the puzzles themselves. And, the “Like” button is only clicked by a few diehards. Similar to Facebook, if they’re not clicking “Like” then they must not like it. Maybe eight years is enough?

I started doing the Jumble a few months back when looking for an answer and came to look forward to your commentaries. I was always impressed by the effort, commitment and personal touch you put it, so I understand why you are simplifying it. Your humor reminds me of my Dad. I’m not big on adding likes or comments, but wanted you to know you have quiet fans out here.

UR, I LOVE reading your anecdotes and wisecracks on the Jumble. I often comment on just the Jumble because I am not learned enough to give more intelligent comments. As for the like, I did not see that there was a like button until you just pointed it out. I will like your posts every day from now on! Please keep the commentary coming.

Thank you, Maggie. It’s just so hard to gauge you quiet fans. I don’t require constant fawning. Just the occasional Attaboy. Keep reading. I’ll try to put some of the old effort back into it.

Aahh! I think I know what you’re talking about, Damid. As the administrator of my blog, WordPress provides me with a STATS page. It shows a bar graph of the last couple of months’ daily visits, where I’m at so far today, Best ever, and All time views and comments. Below that I get a two-day (Today and Yesterday) breakdown of things like: Referrers, Top Posts & Pages, and Search Engine Terms. The Search Engine Terms captures how various visitors got to my blog. On a couple of days in late-ish June there were a lot of people who Googled – or some other search engine – the jumble TUSHIA, and arrived at my blog. As you might remember, I quipped in that day’s spoiler that it sounded like where the Kardashians were from. That “joke” went over like a lead balloon, but a lot of people, who couldn’t come up with HIATUS on there own, got to Uncle Raves Wordy Weblog by searching on . . . TUSHIA!

That’s how I know how many hits I’m getting from one day to the next. I hope that answers your questions.

Uncle Rave: I visit your site quite often; when I first found it on the web it was like striking gold. I visit often, and while not each day, I do read each Jumble entry from when I was last on. I definitely enjoy the details and comments you add; they make the site! The links you often list occasionally lead me to other sites of interest.

Still, I’m one of the people causing you a problem, as I’ve never checked the “like” button once. In no way does that mean I don’t thoroughly enjoy reading your Jumble blog. I guess it doesn’t count on your statistics, but add at least one “kilo-like” to your count. I’m just not a avid clicker of such things; but I will add a “like” when visiting from now on (as long as it doesn’t require me to sign up on a social media site.)

Thank you, BobE! I really appreciate the kind words!

YUR, that does. I didn’t know they could tell you a hit resulted on a search on a jumble. Though I guess I’m not surprised. Like Jeff, I can find the answers on other pages, which all you need to do is type in the jumble and they unjumble. But once I found this page, it was much more enjoyable and entertaining. Which is why I come here pretty much every day.

Like others, I don’t normally hit the Like button. I spend a lot of time online reading comments and the like from various news, sports, entertainment, etc. sites and I almost never click the Like/thumbs up/Up-Down vote buttons. So I guess I add to your angst. But then again, I comment here a lot, like Halliburton and Vnat, so hopefully that counts for something!

I also realize that sites like this is a labor of love, and it sometimes it gets a bit burdensome. I can see how it’s simpler just to put down the real words and the answer. When things become no longer fun, it becomes difficult.
