Answer:  “CUSTOM–EYES–ED“

(Not all that far off from the way the Brits spell CUSTOMIZED.  I wonder who in the United States made the decision to use a Z where the Brits would use an S?  And, who here decided to drop the U from all those words?  Maybe, long ago, it was always the Z and there was no U, but the Brits got pissed that we gave them the boot, so they made some changes, just to kind of say:  Well, it is OUR language!  Stranger things have happened!

Well, guess what, folks?  David L. Hoyt has given us yet another new clue word, in “chewy”.  Monsieur ralis95 will have to update his world famous clue word database . . . one mo time!  And also, all of today’s jumbles are new.  Today’s answer letter layout was a beautifully cryptic jumble.  It took me a few seconds to realize the pun.  Of course, the glasses in Jeff’s great cartoon was a big clue!  Even the optometrist’s glasses are a little funky.  Lots of fun.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
