Jumble Spoiler – 06/24/16

Visual Description:  The parcel pass-over policy.

GANCO  =  CONGA,  SNAPT  =  PANTS,  ORETES  =  STEREO,  CICHET  =  HECTIC   —   Giving us:  CONPANSTOECI

Clue/Question:  The landlord wouldn’t sign for tenants’ packages, – – –

Answer:  NO ACCEPTIONS

(Great pun, of two of the most misused soundalike words; except and accept!  I really like it!  There were no new clue words today, but three of the jumbles did come up as new.  Hoyt has used “snapt” before.  I thought the answer letter layout was absolutely brilliant.  No clues there.  Very amusing cartoon.  The delivery van’s name – Huge Prime – would appear to be a takeoff of Amazon Prime.  And, I’m not sure who looks grumpier, the super or his cat!  By now, most of you know that the Brits voted “Brexit“, yesterday.  World markets are not happy about it, but initial reactions are often more than a little knee-jerk.  Let’s hope that cooler heads begin to prevail.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

A TOUGH, TOUGH Jumble after one of the easiest. I would say that this was tougher than the one I couldn’t solve because I had trouble with most of the words too! It typically takes me just a couple of seconds, if that, to get the words. Today, it took me a few seconds to get PANTS, a minute to get CONGA and two minutes to get STEREO. Only HECTIC was instant, and that was in my toughest words list at one point, if IIRC. The final answer was no gimme, either. I was initially thinking along the lines of ON PRINCIPLE but the letters didn’t fit, of course. I figured out quickly that the second word ended in TION and that meant that the first word was probably ON. It then occurred to me that the answer was something like: ON ACCEPTANCE but again, the letters didn’t fit. Then, it struck me: not ACCEPTANCE but ACCEPTIONS, and not ON but NO. Very nice!

I am loving all the ‘stinky-pun’ answers we’ve had recently! They add a challenge, plus they are just witty…love, love them…also always appreciating the drawings- the detail, the humor, the ‘will anyone know who this is’ characters… A round of applause to Jeff and David- as LL says, ‘Grand jumbles, Guyz’!

CONGA took the most time, for some reason. The other words went quick. I figured the first answer word would be NO, but the long string of blank circles needed some thought. The first try was exceptions, but then that wouldn’t be a pun…..

But . . . ultimately, that’s what the pun was based on! I need to check on yesterday’s numbers. Seems it was a tough solve for many.
