(Very humorous.  Sounds a little like Mark Twain, Josh Billings, or Will Rogers.  But, those guys’ quips have been pretty well reported.  Initially, I was able to see THE TWO, THAT, ARE and AND right off the bat.  But, it took a while for the rest of it to flesh out.  It even took a while for me to see it was SOURCE UNKNOWN.  We haven’t had one of these *anonymous* ones in a while.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  HEADWINDS

(LOVED it!  A true groaner of a pun!  All of today’s clue words are old favorites, however three of the jumbles are coming up as new.  Hoyt has used “sonow” before.  The only jumble that gave me any pause was “lieedy”.  Compound words, such as “eyelid”, always catch me a little off guard.  The answer letter layout did a very good job of hiding the answer.  I definitely don’t think it gave anything away.  The period, fictional cartoon was very entertaining.  The speeding horseman in the background holding his pumpkin head aloft, as he heads for the covered bridge.  The windswept young couple could be Ichabod and Katrina.  I didn’t know – or, I’d forgotten – that Washington Irving named his main character after someone he had met while he was in the Army.  Irving met Colonel – maybe not at the time, but eventually – Ichabod Crane, at Fort Pike, on Lake Ontario, New York, in 1814.  The unusual name stuck in Irving’s head, so he used it in his story.  You can visit some of the sights from the story if you visit Sleepy Hollow, NY.  I believe Sleepy Hollow is actually the name of a cemetery in the Tarrytown area.  Irving is buried there.  The area was incorporated as North Tarrytown in the late 1800s, and was known by that name until 1996.  It was in that year that they voted to formally change the name to Sleepy Hollow, NY.  It’s just a hop, skip and a jump away from me, but I’ve never been there.  Maybe someday!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
