Arnold Palmer enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 1950 as a Yeoman and continued to serve until 1953. Though a Yeoman, Palmer participated in many matches as the Coast Guard allowed him to continue to play golf. Here, he is playing in the 1953 North and South Amateur Golf Championship held at Pinehurst Country Club, Pinehurst, N.C. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

I don’t believe you have to be better than everybody else.  I believe you have to be better than you ever though you could be.”   —   Ken Venturi

(Good golfer, that Ken Venturi.  Great announcer too.  He was right though.  You don’t have to be the number one guy, but you do have to try to be better than you think you are.  You have to strive to succeed.  I have a Club House pass from the 1968 U.S. Open, at Oak Hill Country Club, in Rochester, NY, with a bunch of autographs on it.  No Ken Venturi, but It does have Charles Sifford, Larry Ziegler, Gay Brewer, Bobby Nichols, Bob Panasiuk, Jim Gabrielson, Arnold Palmer, and some names that are a little tough to make out.  Maybe it will be worth something to a golf enthusiast.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  RAHMEN NOODLES

(Cheap soup!  Tasty, easy to make, and fairly filling.  Usually pretty high in sodium though.  Not a good idea to make a habit of them.  No new clue words today, however all of the jumbles came up as new.  I stumbled a bit on “dosted”, but the others were instantaneous for me.  Splendid answer letter layout.  It gave nothing away.  For whatever reason, I couldn’t/didn’t think of ramen right away.  I thought of udon noodles, though I knew that was an unlikely answer.  But, it did give me the NOODLES, which left me with HENMAR.  That’s when ramen, and it’s pun: RAH-MEN set in.  The cartoon was fun.  But, with the guy standing up, it looked like he was holding up an order of fries.  The seated dudes did a better job of conveying noodles.  Be well and do good, friends.  Don’t eat too much instant ramen, especially the kind that comes in styrofoam containers!)   —   YUR
