Clue/Question: Thanks to his fleet of garbage trucks, the business owner had – – –
Pre-Answer: Two words – (10-letters) (6-letters)
Answer: DISPOSABLE INCOME
(I’d be surprised if many of you – who don’t get the Sunday newspaper – got the answer by doing it here. It took me a few minutes, even while looking at Jeff’s great cartoon. Because of the word HAD in the clue/question, I thought one of the words might end in ED. But, everything that I was considering required a T or a G, which just weren’t there. I almost went on to working on the Cryptoquote, because the answer wasn’t jumping out at me. Somehow, the pun just came to me, as though the voice of God was speaking to me! Seriously. If I had to diligently write out various combinations of letters to solve these things, which I have reluctantly done on occasion, I don’t think I could do all of this. I am the Idiom Savant! No new clue words today, but five of the jumbles came up as new. We’ve definitely seen “sauyen” before. Today’s answer letter layout was a masterpiece! Nothing about it hinted at the answer. The cartoon was great. Maybe the excess of the owner’s tricked out vehicle clued me into the answer. But, I don’t consider anything in the cartoon to be a bonus clue. This kind of ties in with today’s Hi and Lois strip. We really are too much of a consume and dispose society. I sure hope the Earth Day message is still fresh in everyone’s memories. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

Just couldn’t come up with the pun. Of course, once I saw the answer. It was obvious. Good one.
I had the exact same thought process with ED, T, and G. My brain was insistent that it to be so! I left it alone for a few minutes, came back, and got it after a wee bit of mental torture. Sometimes, though, if I leave a tricky-to-solve jumble or solution, and come back to it after a mental break, the solution seems to jump out at me!
Two UN words today, plus one U word with no obvious letter combo, based on our conversation on U words this past week…..
Very pleased with myself on this one. I got all the words instantly. The final answer took me about a minute. My first thought was that one of the words was BUSINESS, but neither of the words were 8 letters, and there was no U and only 2 S’s. Then, I figured that one of the words had to do with garbage, and was racking my brain to find it. Finally, I got it – DISPOSABLE. INCOME was then easy to unscramble from the remaining letters. Lovely pun!
i was thinking compressed something but the rest of letters made no sense
It was definitely tough one. Especially for a Sunday! — YUR
hey, I come up with something…IMPOSSIBLE DEACON…deacon means help or helper….
The letters definitely work, Vince, but it’s sill a stretch as an answer to the clue/question. But, I’ve got to give you credit! — YUR 🙂
Just lost a post!! Booooo…maybe it will go through. This one kicked me, But, with help from the husb, my clue letters were confirmed, I finally worked it out tonight! I’ve been working on this puzzler for 3 days!!!
Vijay gets a star!!
I’m actually caught up to May 10. Moving forward and so enjoying it!

OMGoodness Vijay!!! A minute. You are amazing like our Unc.
So this is what happened. I’m working my way through my lovely stack of puzzlers (had gotten up to May 10 !! ) Then I find the April 24 jumbler on top of my stack. The husb had been working the Sodoku and it had gotten mixed up in his paper work. I unjumbled the clue words in good order and quickly…..but then it all came to a halt.
So, THREE days ago I started working on this bugger and I was determined not to let it get the best of me. I was all over the place with great words that I didn’t have letters for!!
And not wanting to throw in the towel, I came to our faithful blog to make sure that my clue letters were correct. The husb checked my letters and confirmed that I had the correct letters to play with. Then, I asked him if “I” was the beginning of the second word..a wild guess. Then he gave me a D for the first letter of the first word. Then I sat here and played around with this puzzler about another 30 minutes. Finally got income! Then disposable.
WOW! Grand puzzler. Kicked me in the seat. And I did have able assistance!
Vincent, Impossible Deacon is great!!!
Hey all, LindaLee
Great persistence, Linda! 🙂
Oh, my original post that disappeared before I hit send did magically reappear ….. as anonymous! Go figure.
Thanks Vijay! I’m almost OCD with my jumblers! LL
