The sense of smell can be extraordinarily evocative, bringing back pictures as sharp as photographs of scenes that had left the conscious mind.”   —   Thalassa Cruso

(So true!  Sound definitely doesn’t do it.  Even though we are predominantly a visual species, smells can trigger our brains to remember things we thought we’d forgotten.  It’s probably a good thing that our sense of smell is not as developed as dogs, because we would never get anything done if we’re forever traveling down memory lane.  As far as I can tell, this is our first Thalassa Cruso quote.  She is gone now, but was once known as “the Julia Child of horticulure”.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  SUITED FOR HIM

(They’ve become fairly commonplace, but I can remember when some guys – and then I guess girls too – started sporting the Mohawk haircuts.  Very popular during the late 70s early 80s Punk Rock scene.  There is – was? – a fierceness to the look that is undeniable.  But, that novelty has worn off, and it’s just become a kind of plaintive fashion statement.  The only time it really shocks anybody these days is when your own – previously lowkey – kid comes home with one.  I know lowkey isn’t really a compound word, but I’ve decided it should be.  “Hot funk, cool punk, even if it’s old junk, it’s still rock and roll to me.”

No new clue words today, although all of the jumbles came up as new.  For some reason it took me half a minute to come up with “audit”.  The answer letter layout was a splendid jumble, that gave away nothing.  The cartoon set things up very nicely.  I’ve never seen a punk tailor before.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
