Reading furnishes the mind only with materials of knowledge; it is thinking that makes what we read ours.”   —   John Locke

(I’m guessing that Locke is referring more to critical thinking.  You can’t very well read anything without thinking, can you?  Critical thought makes the facts meaningful.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  GNAWING AT HIM

(Who doesn’t love dogs behaving as humans???  A very cute jumble.  All of today’s clue words were old favorites, but all of their jumbles came up as new.  My eyes weren’t focusing well this morning and YINRA kept looking like VINRA for a few seconds.  So, it took me a few looks to get “rainy”.  The answer letter layout was very good, but, due to the clue/question, I figured the last two words were AT HIM.  And GNAWING made the pun!  The cartoon was MGM and Warner Bros caliber.  Lots of fun!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
