Answer:  ROLL WITH THE PUNCHES

(I don’t follow MMA, or Ultimate Fighting, much.  Although the referees generally break things up pretty quickly, it’s a little too much like street fighting for my taste.  I’m a much bigger fan of traditional boxing.  The rules seem more clear, and civilized, and the fights have more of an aspect of a chess match, than the frenetic abstract violence of MMA.  But, last week’s upset victory of Holly Holm over the unstoppable champ, Ronda Rousey, did remind me of one classic boxing match from 25 years ago.  A totally arrogant, and classless “champ” completely ignored the dignitaries in the ring, and then showed absolutely no respect to his challenger.  Then he was totally dominated by the 7th ranked challenger, and eventually lost his heavyweight title . . . to James “Buster” Douglas.  After that fight, Mike Tyson was never quite the same boxer again.

There were no new clue words today, but all of the jumbles came up as new.  Surprisingly, “dugele” gave me the most challenge, despite the jumble starting and ending with the same letters as the un-jumbled word.  I thought they were all great jumbles.  The answer letter layout was also a great jumble.  It gave away nothing.  At first I was thinking the answer was going to be LOSE WITH the . . . , but I couldn’t do anything with HNRLUCP.  Not enough vowels.  But, there was enough there for me to recognize PUNCHES, so I was able to come up with ROLL.  I always enjoy Jeff’s boxing cartoons.  Kind of reminiscent of the occasional boxers from the Grin and Bear It comics.  Kind of ironic how the two sports known as The Sport of Kings, boxing and horse racing, are both viewed as secondary sports these days.  They are still two of my favorites.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
