Answer:  WELL-TO-DO

(Oil well, that is.  Black gold.  Texas tea.  There were no new clue words, but all of the jumbles came up as new today.  Nice job on the answer letter layout.  Nothing obvious.  The cartoon is great!  The Beverly Hillbillies was great fish-out-of-water story.  They always make for great comedy.  Unfortunately, the only surviving cast member is Max Baer Jr., aka:  Jethro Bodine.  A very similar fish-out-of-water sitcom, that I also thought was brilliant, is 3rd Rock from the Sun.  I believe all in that cast are still with us.  Joseph Gordon-Levitt got his start on that show.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

The only lies for which we are truly punished are those we tell ourselves.”   —   V.S. Naipaul

(So, maybe these police murders of civilians will be punished in the next life, because these grand juries don’t seem to have the balls to indict some of these bad cops.  If they’re going to maintain that they adhered to policy, then some of these policies need to change.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

(I don’t see a secure tether cable!  This might be a repeat of last week’s JLENS balloon escape!  There were no new clue words today, but all of the jumbles came up as new, for me.  The answer letter layout could have been a lot better, guys.  It doesn’t take a genius to see HIGH in HCGH.  Moving the clue words around could have made it much more cryptic.  The cartoon is swell though.  Last week’s JLENS fiasco is another example of the U.S.’s bloated Defense spending.  They’ve been trying to kill the program since 2010, but certain lobbyist groups won’t let it die.  It’s already cost tax payers $2.7 billion, for this program that hasn’t performed well and is not very reliable.  Many hawks try to portray reducing Defense spending as cutting the number of service personnel and/or cutting their pay and benefits.  But that’s a complete red herring.  There are plenty of white elephant programs, like JLENS, that are sucking away budget bucks, so that certain corporations and certain politicians can get richer and richer.  All at the expense of Infrastructure, Education, Veterans Benefits, Social Security, Medicare, etc., etc.  Ike tried to warn us.  It’s a beast that is getting the best of us.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
