Answer:  VALUED IT

(A non-stinker, if there ever was one!  “Valued” and “appraised” are valid synonyms, so at worst it’s a mild pun.  Surprisingly, we have a new clue word today in “fiscal”.  Our good friend, ralis95, will have to add this to his world famous clue word database!  So, naturally, “siflac” is a new jumble, but so is “odive”.  We have definitely seen both “citile” and “tinyu” in the past.  The answer letter layout was an admirably cryptic jumble too.  I don’t think it gave anything away.  The cartoon is reminiscent of The Antiques Roadshow.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

PS.  There are a lot of interesting birthdays today!  First and foremost, it is Jimmy Carter‘s 91st!  Happy Birthday, Mr. President.  It’s also:  Julie Andrews’ 80th, Stella Stevens‘ 77th, Jerry Martini’s 72nd, Rod Carew‘s 70th, Dave Holland’s 69th, Yvette Freeman‘s 65th, Randy Quaid’s 65th, Howard Hewett‘s 60th, Youssou N’Dour’s 56th, Esai Morales‘ 53, Christopher Titus‘ 51st, and Cindy Margolis‘ 50th.  I know that there are a lot of other – younger – great Libras celebrating a birthday today, but my newspaper has to cut it off somewhere.  Happy birthday to all!      YUR

A lot of people are afraid to say what they want.  That’s why they don’t get what they want.”   —   Madonna

(That’s true.  But, there are mostly legitimate reasons for keeping things unspoken.  Some things, like more money, or “world peace” for example, are universal wants, but most people can’t provide this for you.  And, with the more personal wants, our puritanical society is too quick to label you a “freak” when you voice them.  I think this is the main reason people keep their wants to themselves.  But, more power to people like Madonna.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
