(Down in the dumps is an understatement for me today.  My precious and beautiful Ginger very suddenly took ill and died on us last night.  The Vet believes it was due to a cancerous mass she detected through some X-rays.  She was to have an ultra-sound this morning, but she got progressively worse overnight and went into respiratory arrest around 4:00 AM.  We had all – unofficially – said goodbye to her last night, but I think I may have been the only who realized it at the time.  She wasn’t yet 11, but the Vet said Goldens are very susceptible to certain cancers from 10 on.  We are in a state of shock, and needless to say heartbroken.  She was the most special dog any of us have ever known.  Sweet and loving, with intuitive empathy, and she stayed the playful puppy until the day she died.  That is the main reason we’re all in shock.  If she knew she was sick, she certainly hid it from all of us.  A great loss to my entire family.  She wasn’t my sole reason for living, but she was very high on a very short list.  So much of my life’s routine was built around her.  I will always keep her in my heart.

It looks like “swampy” is a new clue word.  ralis95 can add it to his database.  We’ve definitely seen “slipho”, “vislew” and “duntip” as jumbles before.  The answer letter layout was good, but I picked up on the answer right away.  Fine cartoon.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

I’m really sorry about such sad news, Yur. The loss of a family member equates to losing a limb, and animals are no less missed when they go than humans. The moments they provide us are way more than we expect or even deserve, and ALL of them are nothing but being about love. My sincere condolences to you and your family; I can’t tell I know how you feel but I’ve been through similar situations and they’re really really hard.

I am very sorry about the loss of your beloved dog. I went through a very similar situation with my 11 year old cat earlier this year. It is baffling to me that so many cats and dogs are getting cancer these days.

Thanks to you guys for the warm words of support. The shock will eventually pass, and our memories will help to buffer the pain. — YUR

My condolence to you and your family. It was some years ago that our pet dog died and my wife took almost 6 months to get over the grief. She vowed that she would not keep another pet dog again!

There’s no “replacing” a beloved pet, so the idea of another one is the furthest thing from our minds right now. I’m not the kind who says “never again”, but we are not thinking of anything like that now. Thank you for your concern and condolences. — YUR

Very sorry to hear about Ginger, Unc Rave. I know you’ll learn to live with the loss, but you never really get over it. Hang in there.

    Uncle Rave,

Getting caught up late as usual.

Saddened to hear about Ginger. My sister had a golden that was was a wonderful dog (as most of that breed are), she too succumbed from cancer. It hurts.

    On “SWAMPY”, check:

Thanks for the comforting words, BobE. Looks like your research turned up another *Sunday Surprise*, in “swampy”. My buddy, ralis95, seems to think he’s entitled to taking Sundays off! (The nerve of some people!) I “believe” he’s checking his Sunday emails now, because he doesn’t get the Sunday Jumble, but there are no guarantees when it comes to the man I call “the boss”! — YUR

Oh Unc, my heart hurts so much for y’all. It is never easy losing those wonderful, loving, faithful furry family members. LL
