Answer:  SHOE“-IN

(I’m not sure I even realized that it wasn’t really spelt this way!  It’s actually shoo-in.  It’s kinda counter-intuitive.  We generally think of shooing something away.  But, if you are in favor of something you can always shoo it in, too!  The expression actually has its roots in horse racing, and used to imply a fixed race.  Now, it just means a sure thing . . . without the illegal angle.

There were no new clue words today, but all of the jumbles appear to be new.  WordPress and Zemanta must have kissed and made up, because photos and related stories are back!  It’s a good thing that I check the ralis95 clue word database daily, AND that WordPress provides a spell-check.  I thought the third word was IMPAIL.  Forget the fact that the word would be IMPALE, I was seeing two Is instead of two As.  Oy!  I also struggled some in getting “convoy”.  Nice work on all the jumbles, the answer letter layout included.  Ped-estrian cartoon.  JKLOL.  I actually just bought two new pairs of sneakers.  I could’ve just bought one pair, but the prices were right.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

PS.  Rest in peace, Ernie Banks!  You were a rare talent, and a class act.  We should all love what we do as much as you did.  “Let’s play two!”  That’s the spirit.      YUR

Spelt?? I like spelt risotto! It got me too Unc. I wondered why we had the “”s. Shoo, how about that! Shoe-in makes sense…your foot is IN a shoe. Oh well.

Great puzzler!! And, I actually got impala and convoy without too much fuss.

    Thanks Unc, Guyz! LL

Ernie Banks- my husband’s all-time favorite player, hands-down. What an inspiration. Thanks for mentioning him… ditto on your thoughts.
