Tough Sunday Jumble Spoiler – 12/07/14

Visual Description:  Another tethered teen or twenty-something.

TERERV  =  REVERT,  RUILOQ  =  LIQUOR,  AKANEW  =  AWAKEN,  SULENS  =  UNLESS,  NONYAC  =  CANYON,  GLIBEO  =  OBLIGE   —   Giving us:  RTIOWKNNLSCAOOIG

Clue/Question:  She told her son to get off Facebook and Twitter to do his chores, but he preferred – – –

Answer:  SOCIAL NOTWORKING

(Wow!  Great pun!  This was tough . . . for me, at least.  None of the clue words are new, but a good amount of the jumbling was.  I didn’t have to back into any of them, but I thought “unless” was fairly tough, and “liquor” really threw me.  The answer letter layout was truly a work of art today.  For a long time I thought the first word had to be TAKING.  And, the second word, being in quotation marks, had to be SNOW something, or something SNOW.  After this . . . not working I thought about networking, but there was no E.  But, it helped me to see SOCIAL, and then I was able to figure out the pun.  Fine cartoon.  Two tough Sunday puzzles!  Maybe to help us remember that today is Pearl Harbor Day.  Be well and do good, my friends.)   —   YUR

Tough Sunday Cryptoquote Spoiler – 12/07/14

Honest criticism is hard to take, particularly from a relative, a friend, an acquaintance or a stranger.”   —   Franklin P. Jones

(Very clever.  And, very true.  It’s kind of strange that there is no Wikipedia entry for someone who was once so very well known.  There is a nice bio of him on Answer.com though.  So, if you’re into submitting things on Wikipedia . . . I’ve just given you a great source!  This quote/author uses every letter in the alphabet except B, W, X and Z.  I always get a little rise out things like this.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Jumble Spoiler – 12/06/14

Visual Description:  In-game celebration.

SHOTI  =  HOIST,  HGEED  =  HEDGE,  KREMTA  =  MARKET,  SUFEED  =  DEFUSE   —   Giving us:  HISHEMRDU

Clue/Question:  After throwing the touchdown pass to win the game, his teammates – – –

Answer:  RUSHED HIM

(I like it!  It’s the second football related Jumble to use the word RUSH – in one form or another – in about a week.  Don’t fret that our boys are in a rut, friends.  I’m sure it’s just a PASSING FANCY.  Hey!  ‘Tis the season, folks!  There were no new clue words, but three of the jumbles were new to me.  The answer letter layout was sublime, in my semi-humble opinion.  Number 4?  Who’s this supposed to be, Favre, or Harbaugh?  Only Jeff knows the answer to this, people.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Cryptoquote Spoiler – 12/06/14

We have two ears and one tongue so that we would listen more and talk less.”   —   Diogenes

(“Would” . . . being the operative word in this quote!  Unfortunately, too many of us just do not listen well.  But, that’s kinda offset by those who just don’t know when to shut up!  Can you believe that this is the very first Diogenes quotation since I’ve been posting these spoilers?  I’m shocked.  It was a long wait, but at least it’s a great quote.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
