(Too many peanut butter, banana and bacon sandwiches.  Too many of life’s disappointments.  Too many pills.  Elvis once had it all, but didn’t like seeing it slip away.  Being the kind of icon he once was is awfully hard to live up to.  And, let’s face it, getting old can really be a bitch.  Neil Young sang that:  “It’s better to burn out, than it is to rust.”  This was about Elvis, and it’s almost like Neil had read Elvis’ mind.  Some of us go the flame way, but most of us go the rust route.  That’s life.

We actually had a brand new clue word today, in “gruff”!  And, all of the jumblings were new, from what I cam see.  The word that gave me the most trouble was “knife”.  It’s such a simple word, but when jumbled properly it really makes you think.  I can see people having trouble with “ritual” and “phobia” too.  Good all-around jumbling.  Even the answer letter layout.  It gave nothing away.  Great detail in the cartoon.  Elvis’ belt with the Taking Care of Business buckle.  The sequined jumpsuit.  And, the tailor with a bad toupée.  Lots of fun in today’s cartoon!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Cryptoquote Spoiler – 08/06/14

The first half of our life is ruined by our parents and the second by our children.”   —   Clarence Darrow

(Hey.  We’ve got to blame someone!  This, of course, was said – somewhat – tongue in cheek, but there is a certain element of truth to it, as well.  For good, better or worse, we are all affected by our upbringing and environment.  To an extent, many of us can rise above the more negative aspects of our upbringing, but not always.  And, for those who can, maybe not entirely.  Some of us are just made of tougher stuff than others.  As to the second half of the quote, if you can’t stand a little pain . . . don’t have children!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
