Visual Description:  Petrol price breakdown.

Clue/Question:  With all the taxes and surcharges, gasoline is – – –

English: Gasoline pump

English: Gasoline pump (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Answer:  FEEYOUL

(I’m not terribly comfortable with this answer, but it’s all my daughter and I could come up with.  Taxes and surcharges are fees, and gasoline is a fuel, so . . .  Not real sure – assuming this is right – what the three part break up is about.  To be honest, I’d like someone to come on and just tell me my answer is plain wrong, and correct me.  Then I can hit myself on the forehead and say:  Doh!

There is a new clue word today, in “syrupy”.  ralis95 will have to add this to his database.  All the jumbles were new, from what I could tell.  I initially wrote down ALEVE for the second word!  I guess that proves the pervasiveness of advertising.  It didn’t sit right with me, so I looked again and saw “leave”.  This answer letter layout definitely did not help me out any!  My page stats for today are way above average, so I think that means a lot of you are coming here to check your answers.  Another thing that kind of threw me, is that Jeff’s car looks backwards!  The back looks more like the front, and vice versa.  Maybe, I’ve just been doing these too long, and I should just hang it up.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

I put it in a different order and said “You Fee L”. I thought maybe it was a pun on “You fill”? It’s not a real straightforward answer, that you know you’ve got it once you solve it.

Hey UNC- You are Correct. I could not get final answer so went to JUMBLE .com and cheated by hitting the hint button a few times. I gave it the old college try before throwing in the towel though. I kept trytng to work “FUEL” into final answer. Oh well you win some you lose some, Hopefully are BILLS do better Sunday night thhan I did today. Have a great weekend…WIMPY

CORRECTED VERSION ….. Hey UNC- You are Correct. I could not get final answer so I went to JUMBLE .com and cheated by hitting the hint button a few times. I figured FEE was part of the answer, given the rather awkward phrasing of the puzzle. And I hoped that the single last letter was the Y, to make it look like an adjective or adverb, but then the remaining three letters didn’t work. I decided not to worry about it any longer and wait for your elucidation. So your answer is as good as anything; don’t think this was a stellar day for the puzzle, to put it politely.

I did not understand the answer at all…I get the reason for FEE, but I don’t understand YOU-L. I know that when you say it, it comes out FUEL, but the only way that I knew I had the correct answer was because the site I use told me it was correct when I typed it it. I think a better answer would have been Fee-uel, if they were going that route, but even that is a stretch. I came to your site to see if you had an explanation for me because I clearly did not understand the answer.

I put this jumble away early today. I was not comfortable with my early answer.
I saw the cartoon dollars signs. So I went with ” fee” , meaning fees added in the
fuel price. I tried the ” fuel” angle. But, there are no 4 space slots for fuel as such.

But , I think you have It, YUR ! Two things..the right answer , and ” a uncomfortable” feeling with the answer.

( “you” must be a dub for “u” in the word ..maybe. But, it is out order for the word.)

    Looking for the conclusion ..yet.

This took me the longest it ever has, but you are correct – Fee-You-L [Fuel]

  8. 8 Anonymous August 1, 2014 at 2:55 pm

Thanks. Now I don’t feel so dense. I came up with FEE YOU L and with YOU FEE L, and I was not satisfied with either one, but I seem to be in good company. If either one of these is the “correct” answer, I must say I will be disappointed with the maker of today’s jumble.

I don’t do well on the made up word answers like this one. but it was the first time I went to the internet to solve the puzzle. so cool to find out there are a group of people into this!

Spent a while on it until “:Fee-You-L” came! Had to work for it today, Unc.
Hope you and yours are well. Nice to visit again, Good to check in with a fellow Jumbler for an obscure Jumble. Stay well!

This answer does not make total sense coming from a professional. With only 7 letters I thought it would be easy, then just could not come up with a decent answer. Hope the writer straightens out his home problem and does not mess with us anymore. lol

I also got fee you l. Thanks

  13. 14 Ada August 2, 2014 at 3:27 pm

My first thought was You Fee L but I was like, it doesn’t make any sense!!! Glad to see I wasn’t the only one but Fee You L does work better.

  14. 15 Boo Boo August 2, 2014 at 5:21 pm

how about ” OYE FUE L” Sounds like awful? or, “listen up FUE L?

I have been doing these jumbles for decades and this was by far the poorest answer to any puzzle I have encountered. It seemed to be designed to waste as much of your time as possible. Absolutely pathetic.

  16. 17 unclerave August 2, 2014 at 11:05 pm

Well, maybe this was more of a draft, that somehow got sent out prematurely. Anything is possible. I’m not about to hang the guys for one weak Jumble answer. Let’s just relax and move forward. — YUR 🙂

I’ve been doing these jumbles for 20+years and what ever the answer is, it just doesn’t make sense unless the word fuel itself is in the answer.

  18. 19 LindaLee August 3, 2014 at 7:44 pm

I had to totally throw in the towel!!!!! I tried SO hard. Came up with lots of lame answers that made no sense. So glad I was not alone on this one!

I’ve been working my jumbles as I could grab the paper. So many unwritten comments. So many good puzzlers the past couple of weeks!

Lots going on here, and DMIL in last stages of pulmonary fibrosis. Time is limited.

Now, on to Saturday’s (Aug 2) jumbler!

  19. 20 unclerave August 3, 2014 at 8:27 pm

LindaLee, hon! What/Who is DMIL? I don’t like to hear about anybody in last stages of anything! Don’t worry about some silly Jumble, kid. Without my daughter, I don’t know if I would have gotten this one. TCB, kid. Glad we can be a pleasant distraction for you. — YUR

  20. 21 LindaLee August 3, 2014 at 8:54 pm

Sorry UNC — it is Dear Mother In Law! And thank you. I love my jumblers!!! WOW, this jumbler really drew lots of attention!

  21. 22 unclerave August 3, 2014 at 9:10 pm

Yeah. Big numbers, LL! Best to your DMIL. I know things like this are tough on everybody. I’ll keep good thoughts for her. — YUR

Sorry about the confusion I created with “FEE-YOU-L.” The play on words was supposed to be that if you say FEE-YOU-L (L sound) together as one word, you say FUEL when said quickly. Taxes, fees, etc. make up a large percentage of the cost of gas/fuel which is the basis for the FEE-YOU part. I think maybe it would have played better without the dashes and with just the quotes. This is a great example of my imperfections, since it all seemed to make perfect sense to me. I actually received a lot more e-mails than normal from people saying how much they liked it, although some did tell me they had to think about it for a while and say the answer very fast together to really get it. But, based on the overall reaction I’m seeing here, I’d say it caused more confusion than I would have thought which was certainly not my intent. This will happen again for sure. It’s just the way it goes with puzzle-making and everyone being so different. I am greatly appreciated of all your feedback and comments. It helps me to become a better puzzle maker and I especially appreciate Uncle Rave for creating this online forum so that people can comment. It’s really awesome and very helpful for me. Thank you so much.

Yeah, but . . . what was up with Knurek’s funky car??? LOL! — YUR

  24. 25 jknurek August 4, 2014 at 12:27 pm

What? There were tailpipes by his legs. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it was a little ambiguous. I’d say out of the nearly 1500 puzzles David has created, to have one where players go, “Huh?”. That’s a pretty good percentage. Though we’d love it if people commented on the ones they liked as much as the ones they didn’t.

  25. 26 unclerave August 4, 2014 at 1:43 pm

You can like the more obvious ones, but you’re not likely to get many comments on them. They either have to be REALLY challenging, with a satisfying payoff, or one that doesn’t quite hit the mark, like Friday’s funk-fest, to get people talking. — YUR

  26. 27 LindaLee August 4, 2014 at 8:14 pm

I definitely try to whenever I can Jeff!! Soooooooo many grand puzzlers day after day. And Friday’s was a doozie of a stumper!!

    Thanks guyz and Unc!!! LL
