(Beautifully timed Jumble pun.  Rory just won the 2014 British Open, at Royal Liverpool!  He didn’t actually extend his lead today, but at least he didn’t completely blow it.  He held on to win by two strokes over Sergio Garcia and Rickie FowlerHe had been up by six, by Saturday’s close.  He’s only the third golfer to win three majors by age 25.  He’s in superlative company, along with Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.  But, enough of this golf business.  Most of you don’t come here for a sports wrap up.  You come for the Jumble Spoilers and corresponding commentary.  So, without further ado:

There were no new clue words today, but every single clue word was jumbled expertly.  All, except “thrash”, were new jumblings to me.  I struggled a bit in getting both “thrive” and “donkey”, but the rest came easier to me.  The answer letter layout was very impressive at 16 letters.  In this form, I don’t think it could possibly have given anything away.  The cartoon took me a few seconds to realize it was golf.  The walled off gallery and the pot bunkers threw me for a bit.  I think this made for one of the best Sunday Jumbles I’ve ever worked on.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

(A very humorous quote, from a marvelous character actor.  For folks mainly my age and older, you would probably remember him as Max, the all-purpose assistant to Robert Wagner and Stephanie Powers, on the television series Hart to Hart.  He had a great craggy face and a gravelly voice.  I’m relatively sure he must have played his share of gangsters and assorted bad guys.  He had a long and productive career, despite being black-listed for a time in the 1950s.  So many in Hollywood, and the arts in general, were black-listed back then.  When it all blew over, it became like a badge of honor to have been black-listed.  Be well and do good, my friends.)   —   YUR

PS.  Zemanta brought up some pics of this lovely lady named Carmen Hart.  Much prettier than old Lionel.  And, you all know how I love the eye candy!  LOL!   —   YUR
