Clue/Question: The cost to change his flight was going to be $600. He didn’t think that was – – –
Answer: “AIR–FAIR“
(Remember TWA? How about PanAm, Eastern, National, Northwest, US Airways or Continental? These were all major players at one time, and there were more. Now, all we have is American, Delta, United, Southwest and Jet Blue. There are still a bunch of regionals, but they kind of come and go, and even they are subject to takeovers. Sure, some companies that get taken over are weak and have bad management, but the end result of all these mergers is that now there is less competition. And, when competition shrinks prices go up. And, the jobs that used to pay pretty well, and were considered glamorous? Now, they pay slave wages, and it’s tough for them to attract younger educated employees. Think of all this the next time you pay for your checked bag AND your carry-on, and you wedge yourself into your seat with a shoehorn, with your knees up in your face, and nibble on a snack you brought with you, because your airfare does not include a meal anymore. A cocktail is no bargain these days as well. And, don’t get me started on all the TSA nonsense, and the airlines policies about making changes. Flying used to be fun. Now, it pretty much sucks.
No new clue words today. Some of the jumblings are new. The answer letter layout was fine. The cartoon does a great job of showing the airline’s disdain and the passenger’s frustration. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
