(Yep.  That’s a groaner, alright.  People in Argentina are cringing!  No new clue words today.   The jumbling was great though.  The jumbles of both “tavern” and “trendy” were new to me.  The answer letter layout was real spiffy.  Nothing given away there.  The cartoon looks like a scene right out of Dancing With The Stars.  Congrats to Maks and Meryl on winning!  The inspiration award goes to Amy Purdy!  She accomplished more on artificial legs than I ever could on my natural legs.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Carl Rogers Quote

Carl Rogers Quote (Photo credit: Psychology Pictures)

The only person who is educated is the one who has learned how to learn and change.”   —   Carl Rogers

(I fear this means I’m getting less educated as I get older, because a lot of the “change” is just getting so hard to handle.  I hope that they give points for trying!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

(Beautiful, guys!  No new clue words today, but I did struggle a bit with “puppet” and more so with “casino”.  I really seem to have a mental block when it comes to that word!  The answer letter layout was fine.  The drawing is very respectful.  Remember our fallen heroes, friends.  That’s what Memorial Day is all about.  Peace.)   —   YUR

Answer:  COMIC RELIEF

Hilary Duff

Hilary Duff (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

(Not for this guy who is expecting to win, it isn’t!  Jeff Keane‘s joke is just prolonging the guy’s agony.  Is that Stephan Pastis up front?  That looks like Hilary Price just beyond him.  And, Wiley Miller and Mark Tatulli at the rear.  Ya gotta figure that at least Jeff Knurek will be attending.  I guess David L. Hoyt could be Jeff’s:  And One!  I’m a big Non Sequitor and Rhymes With Orange fan, so I guess I’d be pulling for Wiley, or Hilary.  But, I’m sure that they are all very deserving.  Just being one of the four nominees is already a huge honor.  Congrats to all of them on they’re nomination!

There were no new clue words today, but the guys went out of their way to give us “family” and “circus”.  Gee.  I wonder why???  You could say that all of them are “joker”s, and today’s Jumble is a bit of a “tease”.  The answer letter layout was nicely cryptic.  I don’t think it gave anything away.  Jeff’s cartoon is a great tribute to the National Cartoonists Society.  Nice job on the Reuben Award, buddy!

Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

PS.  In the spirit of impartiality, I’m not giving you pictures of any of the nominees.  Please enjoy these pics of Hilary Duff instead!  Plus, she’s a hottie.     YUR

Brian and Tracy (and Julee)

Brian and Tracy (and Julee) (Photo credit: Matt Stratton)

Winners make a habit of manufacturing their own positive expectations in advance of the event.”   —   Brian Tracy

(You can always tell the difference between a philosopher’s quotation, and one coming from a motivational speaker.  Because the motivational speaker concentrates mainly on business people, he relies too much on the kind of language you’d hear in business meetings, instead of keeping things simple.  And, too often there is this emphasis on winners and losers.  It has its place, I guess.  It just strikes me as insincere . . . and coolly manipulative.  I’d rather show you the Brian/Tracy above.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  WELL WORTH IT

(But, look where it’s gotten us since then.  Not just oil though.  It’s all the fossil fuels.  Or, the burning/releasing of, I guess I really should say.  We have gotten ourselves into quite a mess.  We have dragged our feet for far too long, as the deniers have bought the big energy producers more and more time . . . and money/power, while ultimately shortening mankind’s time on this fragile blue marble.  Many scientists say that we have already passed the tipping point.  The big energy producers, and former – and current – deniers may take the cynical:  Well, it’s too late anyway, so we might as well keep going! approach, but that’s a combination of greed and defeatism that we just cannot afford.  We need to petition our elected officials to enact the necessary changes.  And, we really need to hold their feet to the fire, so to speak.  I’ll spare you any further preaching/gory details, friends, but be prepared for things getting worse before they get better.  But also, know that things have to change . . . yesterday!

Okay, kids!  Here’s your reward for sitting through Yer Uncle’s Rave.  There were no new clue words today.  Personally, I only thought that “either” was fairly difficult to un-jumble.  The answer letter layout was pretty good.  Switching “borrow” for “either” might have made it a little more challenging, but probably just a little.  It was a good stinky pun.  And, the cartoon had a nice historic feel to it.  That’s it for now.  Be well – not oil well – and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

(I’d say this Jumble is more than pretty good.  I’d say it’s pretty great!  And, these photos supplied by Zemanta are pretty great, too.  None of the clue words are new, but they were all jumbled well.  I think they were all fairly challenging.  The pun was fun.  The answer letter layout was sufficiently cryptic.  I liked the artsy fartsy-ness of the two characters in the foreground.  And, I like the Pharrell Williams – Smokey Bear – hat on the judge/audience member, in the background!  All around, a good Jumble.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Live as if you were to die tomorrow.  Learn as if you were to live forever.”   —   Mahatma Gandhi

(Living and learning – going hand in hand – are really a matter of attitude.  You don’t have to engage in risky, or risqué, activities . . . every day . . . in order to “live”.  You just need to appreciate that you are alive.  And, you don’t need to be engaged in some kind of formal continuing education in order to “learn”.  All you need is an open mind, and an open heart, to things you are yet to know.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR
