Answer:  LOW RENTS

(OK.  The pun is supposed to come from the fact that Death Valley is the lowest area – elevation-wise – in the United States.  Yeah, I know.  It’s only moderately funny.  They can’t all be winners.  There were no new clue words today, but I liked the jumbling of both “oblige” and “sprain”.  One is hard for some because it starts with a vowel, and the other jumbled version leads you to believe that it might be two syllables.  Excellent job on the answer letter layout!  If you didn’t know about Death Valley, or you didn’t pick up on the sign in the cartoon, then you might have had a little trouble solving this.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

I thought I might have the wrong answer…but I didn’t. Low rents was all I could come up with, and that took most of the day. “Rents” is why I thought it was wrong. Usually think in terms of low rent. And sprain took about as long! As usual, the guyz had me puzzled!

Cute puzzle, but anyone who has spent anytime in Death Valley will tell you there is no such thing as “Low Rents”. In fact, the last time we stayed there, the room at Death Valley’s Furnace Creek Inn was a minimum of $350 a night for a very small room.

Speak of the devil! Hey, boss. What’s happenin’? $350 for me to look at sand, rocks and cacti? And, turn into a roasted pepper??? No thank you, brother! I’ll take something a little more temperate, please. — YUR 😉
