Wow. You two should get a room! Just kidding. This does prove that literate people are reading my little blog! Just to show you how bright yer Uncle is; the Peanuts gag – in regards to it being a parody of the Bulwer-Lytton quote – ALWAYS went over my head. I just thought it was a melodramatic opening line that Charles Schulz came up with, that always left Snoopy struggling to build upon. Didn’t know it was from classic(?) literature.
If I ever get down to writing a book I’ll be sure to start with a little melodrama of my own.

The majority of the quotes, that you at least generally give the impression of being from “famous people everyone will know”, are completely unfamiliar names to me.
