“The true spirit of conversation consists of building on another man’s observation, not overturning it.” —Edward Bulwer-Lytton
(But, the conversation project also has to be a give-and-take collaboration between two parties. When one side insists on doing all the hammering, the other side quickly develops a headache. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR
Wasn’t he the “it was a dark and stormy night” guy immortalized by Peanuts?
These are wise sentiments and measured words from the man who gave us, “It was a dark and stormy night”!
Wow. You two should get a room! Just kidding. This does prove that literate people are reading my little blog! Just to show you how bright yer Uncle is; the Peanuts gag – in regards to it being a parody of the Bulwer-Lytton quote – ALWAYS went over my head. I just thought it was a melodramatic opening line that Charles Schulz came up with, that always left Snoopy struggling to build upon. Didn’t know it was from classic(?) literature.
If I ever get down to writing a book I’ll be sure to start with a little melodrama of my own.

Alas, I fear I can’t merit the description “literate people”, despite your kind words.
The majority of the quotes, that you at least generally give the impression of being from “famous people everyone will know”, are completely unfamiliar names to me.
Art
Don’t sell yourself short, Art! There are too many people out there who are willing to do that for (to?) you. — YUR
