Answer:  RUSHING

(Cute!  The Jum Bowl, huh?  I think I have seen stranger!  Forget about the shameless commercialization of the bowls that many of us have come to know.  That pisses me off to no end.  But, there are some newer bowls out there that sound friggin’ ridiculous!  Dig this.  The BBVA Compass Bowl?  The GoDaddy Bowl?  The Belk Bowl?  The Fight Hunger Bowl?  The S.D. County Credit Union Poinsettia  Bowl?  The Heart of Dallas Bowl?!  The Beef O’Brady’s Bowl St. Petersburg?!  And, the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl?!   You don’t even need to have a winning record to play in some of these “bowl games”.  What’s next???  The Petco Fish Bowl?!  The Kellogg’s Cereal Bowl?!  The Saniflush Toilet Bowl?!  It’s outta control!  So, why not the Jum Bowl?  Stop the goddamn world, yer Uncle wants to get off!

No new clue words today, but some nifty jumbling.  I especially liked “mogul”, “relic” and “chosen”.  Nice job on the answer letter layout too.  The usual great cartoon.  I hope the best for all of us in 2014.  Hey, we deserve it!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Happy New Year! Here’s to 2014, the 60th Anniversary year of the Jumble! Thanks Uncle, for keeping us honest and pushing us to be our best. And thanks to all you Jumblers! We hope to make 2014 a year to remember!

    Robert Galebach,

Thank you for asking “Please”! To my way of thinking though, neither *friggin’* nor *goddamn* are inappropriate language. Friggin’, or freakin’, or using the word fudge, leaves little to the imagination. Just as shoot, sugar and shitake mushrooms leaves little to the imagination. The intent is there, for all to see. As far as goddamn goes, for me that is just part of today’s vernacular. I could just sugarcoat it, by saying: goldarn or gosh darn, but because of my views on organized religion *I* don’t have a problem with goddamn, or even God damn. If you do, I see that as your problem. I realize you are not alone in this opinion, but I feel I have to stay true to myself. Clearly, I don’t use these exclamations all that often, so you have to ask yourself if it’s worth putting up the occasional *language* issues. If it’s that big a deal for you, you are free to unsubscribe – assuming you are subscribed – or you can just stop visiting. I hate to see anyone go, but I will understand it if you choose to do so.

I think it’s pretty amusing that the icon that WordPress assigned to you looks like a very disapproving character, with their hands on their hips, as if they were scolding someone! I don’t think that could’ve been planned any better!

    Take care, sir.

    Hi, Jeff!

Thanks for stopping by, brother! 60 years is pretty impressive, alright! Who knows, maybe with today’s shortening attention spans, you guys might even outlast the crossword puzzle. (Don’t tell Will I said that!)

Looks like something is missing! I’ve never tried to send a message like this from my cell phone, so I can’t tell you what went wrong. — YUR

Late for this one but so agree about all the bowl games I had to post I’ve been ranting for a couple of weeks. I can tell this pleases my husband to no end!. The Wall Street had a great article this past week on the same subject.

Don’t get me started, LindaLee! This could very easily lead to my rant on throwback and “commemorative” jerseys/uniforms! Oy vey! — YUR
