(Bang up job, guys!  It’s current and relevant.  Clue words are tried and true.  None were too difficult.  The answer letter layout was top-notch.  For those of you with the reduced sized Jumble, that’s an XLVIII on those pennants.  Does anybody have any Super Bowl predictions?  I have very mixed feelings about it.  Good defense and a strong running game very often prevail, so I think you have to give the edge to the Seahawks.  But, you can’t discount the experience and caginess of guys like Peyton Manning and Wes Welker.  Should be a good game either way!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

(Every little breeze seems to whisper Louise.  Very cute quote from a largely forgotten First Lady of long ago.  Some First Ladies stand out more than others, either because of their personality and activism, or due to the popularity of their husbands.  We all know the Marthas, Abigails, Dollys, Mary Todds, Eleanors, Bess’, Mamies, Jackies, etc., etc.  But, what about Mrs. Fillmore, Mrs. Pierce, Mrs. Polk, Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. Taft and the like?  They always used to say:  Behind every great man there’s a great woman, so how could we let so many great women go so unrecognized?  Someone needs to compile the activities and accomplishments of these largely forgotten great women.  After all, it’s not just a man’s world anymore.  Our next President could very easily be a woman.  President Warren, or maybe President Gillibrand?  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

(This is one of the reasons why admire the Carters so much.  They both have so much compassion for their fellow man.  Her husband, Jimmy, was the last independent thinking, true public servant to hold the office of the Presidency of the United States.  It’s just too bad that he was considered so much of an outsider, and he crossed the wrong people.  As a result, they were not treated well by the media.  They both have so much intelligence, grace, humility and integrity.  All the traits we should hope for in our President and First Lady.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  PART-TIME

(The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain.”  “I think she’s got it.  I think she’s got it!”  Accents can really be a bitch.  Some people pull them off so – seemingly – effortlessly, but they generally take a lot of work.  I haven’t watched My Fair Lady in quite a while, but it’s a great play/movie.  No new clue words, but I really liked the jumbling of both “italic” and “nephew”.  Hoyt did a fine job with the answer letter layout too!  You really have to re-arrange the letters to get today’s answer.  Well, not me of course.  I’m the idiot savant of Jumbles!  Ya have to be good at something!  Knurek also did a fine job . . . setting the stage.  That’s about it, friends.  Be well and do good.)   —   YUR

(I worry for the future of books.  In this age of tablets and digital books I think we stand to lose more than what we think we might be gaining.  Having a tangible, printed book gives us the reassurance that this is what the author really said.  When it’s in its digital form it can be edited and manipulated, by whatever powers that may be, and no one has to be the wiser.  Whether it’s the use of the “N-word” in Huckleberry Finn, or earlier versions of NORAD and FAA Protocols, digital versions can be “sanitized” to suit someone’s needs, at the expense of originality . . . and the truth.  Speed and convenience are wonderful things, but truth and accuracy are ultimately much more important.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Stephen King Colection

Answer:  MR. WRITE

(And, he . . . Mrs. “Write”, to a lesser extent, as she is also an author.  Very few are as prolific as Stephen King though.  James Patterson can crank them out too, but King’s can be rather lengthy at times, while Patterson seems to be able to keep his stories to under 400 pages.  But, none of this has anything to do with today’s Jumble!

No new clue words today, but I did enjoy the jumbling of both “motion” and “theory”.  TOMINO put me in mind of tomatillos, which I just heard/read about for the first time.  I thought that the chef/author was just trying to sound ethnic, talking about some kind of small, Mexican tomatoes, or something, but they are a “fruit” unto themself, and are used in making Mexican/Central American green sauces.  They are in the same family as tomatoes though.  It was a recipe for something called Denver Green Chili, and it sounded good to me!  But of course, I’m a sucker for stews and chilis.  I likes my comfort food, folks!  Oh, yeah.  The Jumble.  The answer letter layout was pretty spiffy today.  Nothing given away there.  And, that’s saying a lot for a short answer like today’s.  The cartoon was charming and romantic.  Was King expecting this, Jeff?  Or, was he just kind of the most logical choice for this Jumble?  Doesn’t really matter, I guess.  I just know that sometimes Jeff has very specific reasons for his cartoons.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Answer:  FIXED INCOME

Official seal of Caribou, Maine

(Quaint and cute.  Old Ray may not be living off of a fat pension, but at least he can supplement his income by doing odd jobs for other people his own age.  This is more likely Arizona.  Or even South Africa, I suppose.  It looks to be a heck of a lot warmer than the Hudson Valley region of New York, where it’s currently – around noon – 17° but feels like 7°.  I guess I should be happy I don’t live in International Falls, MN or Caribou, ME, but those people are accustomed to mega-frigid winters.  We’re not!  We are used to it being four or five degrees degrees above freezing, during the daytime.  We’ll survive.  But, our heating bill is going to be astronomical!

No new clue words today, but some decent jumbling.  “Misery” was the most interesting jumble.  It’s funny, the word “misery” was also prominent in the Cryptoquote today.  Fine job on the answer letter layout.  It did not give away anything.  Great cartoon, too.  No one looks cranky today!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

PS.  Rest in peace, Pete Seeger!  Thank you, for inspiring generations of folk singers and political activists.  Whether it was civil rights, the environment, or the anti-war effort you could always be counted on to shine the spotlight on all forms of injustice.  With a hammer, a bell and a rousing song about love between our brothers and our sisters, you have taught us all that by banding together we shall overcome . . . some day.  Peace be with you, Pete!      YUR

(Could this be our first Martha Washington quotation?  It looks like the first since I’ve been posting these spoilers.  While there certainly is a lot of truth to this statement, it also doesn’t hurt being born into a very wealthy family.  It’s much easier being rosy with resources, than trying to be cheery while cold, wet and hungry.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

(Surprisingly, our first Abigail Adams quote since I’ve been posting these spoilers.  Abby must be referring to formal education, because I generally learn something new everyday, without even trying.  The young Abigail was one of America’s first hotties.  No disrespect intended.  I actually know one of her descendents, and she is very attractive too.  Goes by the nickname of Wiz!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

(This one has kind of a classic vibe to it.  Maybe not with this specific question and cartoon, but . . .  I’m sure some of the old Jumble pros know what I’m talking about.  Regardless of originality – which is difficult in these puzzles – I thought the clue words, were jumbled well.  Only “bellow” was notable though.  It’s one of those rare Jumble words that spells out alphabetically!  The answer letter layout was fantastic, too!  Good job on Mr. Hoyt.  And, the cartoon was very inviting, with the classic sinking sailboat on the horizon.  I’d love to be in the Caribbean right now.  I’m sick and tired of this Polar Vortex nonsense!  Although, today we’re experiencing the equivalent of a tropical heat wave.  It is all the way up to 35° F!  But, that is going to be short lived.  Tomorrow and Wednesday we’re expecting highs of 18° and 19°, with lows of 2° and 4° respectively.  I don’t even want to think about wind chills!  Be well and do good, friends. If you’re cold like me, try to stay warm.)   —   YUR
