Answer:  BEST BET

(Stay away from the pros, folks.  Card sharks will eat you up!  No new clue words today, but some nice jumbling.  Kind of hard to hide the answer when there’s really only four different letters.  Nice cartoon.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

PS.  Zemanta picked up on the word “bet”, and brought pictures from the BET Awards.  I could’ve given you Beyonce, but I liked this actress better.     YUR

You realize, of course, that BASSY is a perfectly legitimate word as well as ABYSS?!

You know how I hate arguing with you, Art. But, No. I am not aware of that assertion. — YUR

That manufacturer’s speakers have a reputation for being too bassy.

Or just pulling one of a zillion references from the web: “We recommend closed-back models; though more bassy, they’re far better at containing sound.” from a headphone review.

Heh, everybody, I finally got my new computer so I can do the Jumble again regularly. I found today’s puzzle pretty easy, but I went back a few days and not so easy. I like the cartoon today since I get nervous even putting coins in the slot machines, let alone trying to play in a card game!

Even if BASSY is in the dictionary, I don’t consider it to a common word. This is tough, because if I eliminated all words that were in the dictionary, I’d be eliminating a ton of words and we’d be reduced to a very small pool of words to play with. The only way to do it is use “common words.” Of course every now and then I’ll be wrong about what’s common and what’s not. It’s a judgment call. I try my best to make good judgment calls on this issue, but I’m not perfect and I’m sure there will be many times where people disagree with me as to what’s common and what’s not, especially when we add new words that have never been used in Jumble before. Thank you Uncle Rave for what you do for Jumble! We really appreciate what you do.

I love music, but I’m no audiophile. I think “bassy” might be an industry shorthand for saying *too much bass*. Spell-check doesn’t like it, and if you type it in Google, followed by the word “definition” it brings you to the definition of *brassy*. In my un-official OFFICIAL capacity, I’d have to give it a thumbs down, bud.

Been missing you, lady. Nice to have you back with us. Congrats on the new computer. Looking forward to hearing more from you.

You are welcome. This is – more or less – a labor of love. And, of course the chicks. I do it for the chicks. LOL!
